  1. 1. Extreme hemodilution: Effects of inhalation anesthetics, hypoxia, and blood loss. An Experimental study in pigs

    Författare :Henning Schou; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anaesthesiology; oxygen saturation.; blood volume; coronary circulation; blood lactate; oxygen uptake; Anemia; oxygen delivery; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård;

    Sammanfattning : Hemodilution reduces the need for blood transfusion and hereby the risk for transmission of infectious agents. The present study investigated effects on systemic and myocardial circulation and oxygenation, and blood lactate concentrations; induced by nitrous oxide, isoflurane, hypoxia, and uncompensated blood loss, in pigs hemodiluted to a hematocrit of 11%. 2. 2. Oxygen delivery and mitochondrial dysfunction as assessed by microdialysis during interventions in experimental sepsis

    Författare :Magnus von Seth; Lipscey Miklós; Jan Sjölin; Mats Eriksson; Jukka Takala; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; sepsis; animal models; microdialysis; endotoxin; Escherichia coli; tigecycline; doxycycline; albumins; capillary leak syndrome; lactic acid; oxygen delivery; multiple organ failure; mitochondria; tumor necrosis factor alpha; interleukin-6; cyanides; ouabain; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Sammanfattning : Early administration of broad-spectrum antibiotics is the first goal in sepsis treatment. Besides from bacteriostatic/bactericidal effects, some antibiotics may also modify the host´s response to infection. The novel antibiotic tigecycline may exert such properties; however, this property has not been evaluated in large-animal trials. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Role of Kidney Oxygen Homeostasis for the Development of Kidney Disease

    Författare :Carla Carvalho; Fredrik Palm; Peter Hansell; Malou Friederich; Jenny Nyström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Oxygen; Kidney mitochondria; Hypoxia-inducible factors; Prolyl hydroxylase; von Hippel-Lindau; Diabetes; Aging; Kidney; Sodium; RAAS; Fysiologi; Physiology;

    Sammanfattning : The relation between oxygen supply and demand determines tissue oxygen tension (PO2). When intrarenal tissue PO2 decreases, any compensatory increase in oxygen supply via increased renal blood flow is likely to increase glomerular filtration rate. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The significance of mitochondrial respiratory function in regulating oxygen uptake and performance in humans

    Författare :Daniele A. Cardinale; Filip J Larsen; David Bishop; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mitochondria; OXPHOS; p50mito; mitochondrial oxygen affinity; oxygen extraction; sex difference; hyperoxia; training; muscle metabolism; performance; HIIT; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : The mitochondrion is one of the most fascinating organelles of our cells which has kept and keeps researchers busy in studying its origin, the complex morphology, the numerous functions, the rapid adaptations to a variety of stimuli and its role in health and disease. Exercise challenges cellular homeostasis and skeletal muscle mitochondria greatly adapt to repeated bouts of exercise by increasing mitochondrial respiratory function and content to match energy requirements and to better sustain future perturbations induced by muscle contractions. 5. 5. Severe Hemodilution - Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Författare :Valéria Perez de Sá; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; shivering; critical oxygen delivery; oxygen consumption; child; dextran; hypothermia; hemodilution; anemia; Anaesthesiology; intensive care; Anestesiologi; intensivvård; lactates;

    Sammanfattning : In children, it is often desirable to minimize allogenic blood transfusion, and this thesis explores the physiology of an alternative method of managing perioperative blood loss: hemodilution with Ringer´s dextran. Methods Clinical studies: Arterial pressure, superior caval venous oxygen saturation (ScvO2) and blood lactate concentration (L) were studied during bone marrow harvesting (BMH) on 23 occasions in 19 children, 1-17 years of age, with healthy hearts and lungs.
