1. On some Nonlinear Aspects of Wave Motion
Sammanfattning : In the first part of this thesis we consider the governing equations for capillary water waves given by the Euler equations with a free surface under the influence of surface tension over a flat bottom. We look for two-dimensional steady periodic waves. The problem is first transformed to a nonlinear elliptic equation in a rectangle. LÄS MER
2. Wave Propagation in Structural Elements - Direct and Inverse Problems in the Time Domain
Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is direct and inverse wave propagation problems in structural elements. The considered structures are beams, plates and rods. The models for the beams and the plates are based on linear theory, while the rods are assumed to be nonlinear. The greater part of the work concerns the Timoshenko beam. LÄS MER
3. Energy-momentum conserving time-stepping algorithms for nonlinear dynamics of planar and spatial Euler-Bernoulli/Timoshenko beams
Sammanfattning : Large deformations of flexible beams can be described using either the co-rotational approach or the total Lagrangian formalism. The co-rotational method is an attractive approach to derive highly nonlinear beam elements because it combines accuracy with numerical efficiency. LÄS MER
4. Adhesive Joints in Timber Engineering. Modelling and Testing of Fracture Properties
Sammanfattning : This thesis, which is a compilation of seven papers, concerns the mechanical testing, numerical analysis and constitutive modelling of wood-adhesive bonds in timber engineering. Applications such as finger-joints, glued-laminated timber and glued-in rods are considered. LÄS MER
5. Determination of viscoelastic material properties and impact force from measurements on impacted bodies
Sammanfattning : Methods are presented for identification of linear and nonlinear viscoelastic materials and for prediction of impact force on the basis of measurements made on impacted bodies. The complex modulus is identified from measured end-point accelerations of an impacted rod specimen, and in-situ from measured strains at three sections of a rod-like member of an impacted structure.
