11. Theoretical Characterization of Optical Processes in Modecular Complexes
Sammanfattning : The main theme of this thesis is to study effects of different environments on geometric and electronic structures, as well as optical responses, of molecules using time-(in)dependent density functional theory. Theoretical calculations have been carried out for properties that can be measured by conventional and advanced experimental techniques, including one-photon absorption (OPA), two-photon absorption (TPA), surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) and second order nonlinear optical (NLO) response. 12. Sorption reactions between ionic species and magnetite in aqueous solution
Sammanfattning : The surface chemistry of inorganic materials is of great significance in a number of industrially important processes such as separation of ore by flotation, catalysis, water purification, leaching, as well as in the formulation of some pharmaceutical preparations. This thesis deals with magnetite and its sorption properties. LÄS MER
13. Thin films for indoor air monitoring : Measurements of Volatile Organic Compounds
Sammanfattning : Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the indoor air have adverse effects on the dwellers residing in a building or a vehicle. One of these effects is called sick building syndrome (SBS). LÄS MER
14. Molecular Interactions and Dynamics in Lithium Conducting Electrolytes
Sammanfattning : Lithium conducting electrolytes, suitable for battery applications, have been characterized on a molecular level using Raman spectroscopy, ab initio calculations and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, in order to better understand molecular and ionic interactions and dynamics in the systems. Three different types of electrolytes have been investigated; polymer gel electrolytes, solid polymer electrolytes and plastic crystal materials, with the main focus on the polymer based electrolytes. 15. Interactions between polymers and the environment
Sammanfattning : This dissertation addresses the structure and properties of a number of polymer-based materials when they come into contact with specific environments. The first part describes the migration and depletion of active substances from insecticide-impregnated polyethylene sheets in water and air at different humidity levels and higher temperatures.
