  1. 21. Inflammation and cytokine production in experimental neuroinflammatory disorders

    Författare :Xiang-Yu Zheng; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Glutamate excitotoxicity is involved in the pathogenesis of a variety of neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and multiple sclerosis (MS). Kainic acid (KA), an analogue of excitotoxic glutamate, can elicit selective neuronal death in the brain of rodents, of which the pathological changes partially mimic the neurodegenerative disorders in humans. 2. 22. On inflammatory cytokines and β-amyloid peptides in acute and chronic neurodegeneration

    Författare :Roya Tehranian; Gianluigi Forloni; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Inflammation; Cytokines; Amyloid; Peptides; Nerve degeneration; Neurochemistry and Neurotoxicology; neurokemi och neurotoxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : Insults to the brain as well as neurodegenerative diseases are known to elicit inflammatory responses. Inflammation in the brain can on one hand initiate processes that are harmful to the injured tissue and exacerbate the damage, leading to neuronal degeneration and glial activation, and on the other hand activate processes that may be necessary for repair mechanisms and regeneration. 3. 23. Cytokines in the nervous system with emphasis on interleukin-1 receptor-mediated activity

    Författare :Mircea Oprica; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is one of the most important pro-inflammatory cytokines and plays a pivotal role in the neuroinflammation associated with certain forms of neurodegeneration, such as epilepsy, cerebral ischemia, trauma, and Alzheimer's disease (AD). Also, it was suggested that IL-1 is involved in physiological processes, namely modulation of sleep, glucose and lipid metabolism, and neuroendocrine regulation, as well as modulation of learning and memory. 4. 24. Spinal cord injury : mechanical and molecular aspects

    Författare :Anna Josephson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Spinal cord; syringomyelia; MRI; fMRI; neurotrophin; Nogo; Nogo receptor; regulation;

    Sammanfattning : Traumatic spinal cord injury leads to full or partial paralysis and loss of sensation below the level of injury. The annual incidence of spinal cord injury in the United States is 3-5 per 100,000 and in Sweden is 1.5-2 per 100,000. This translates to 11,000 new cases of traumatic spinal cord injury in the US and 150 in Sweden each year. LÄS MER
