1. Hunting Hydrogen : Structure-property relations in High Entropy Alloy-based metal hydrides
Sammanfattning : Metal hydrides have many uses when switching the energy system from fossil fuels to renewable sources, such as rechargeable batteries, hydrogen storage, hydrogen compression and thermal storage. State of the art materials for these applications such as LaNi5 and TiFe, however, suffer certain limitations such as degradation during repeated hydrogen cycling and harsh activation conditions for initial hydrogen uptake, promoting the need for novel materials. 2. Hydrogen Storage Materials : Design, Catalysis, Thermodynamics, Structure and Optics
Sammanfattning : Hydrogen is abundant, uniformly distributed throughout the Earth's surface and its oxidation product (water) is environmentally benign. Owing to these features, it is considered as an ideal synthetic fuel for a new world energetic matrix (renewable, secure and environmentally friendly) that could allow a sustainable future development. 3. Nanoplasmonic Alloy Hydrogen Sensors
Sammanfattning : The hydrogen economy proposes hydrogen gas as the main energy carrier thanks to its high energy density and the possibility to produce it in a sustainable way without CO2 emission. However, the wide flammability range of hydrogen-air mixtures dictates that hydrogen sensors will be a mandatory accessory to any appliance or vehicle fueled by hydrogen. LÄS MER
4. Recycling of nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries; Characterization and recovery of nickel, AB5 alloy and cobalt
Sammanfattning : Nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries are used today for applications that can assist in the adaptation toward carbon-neutral energy sources (i.e. hybrid vehicles and smart grids). Recovery of metals such as nickel, cobalt and rare earth elements (REEs) from discarded NiMH batteries is important for economic and/or technological reasons. LÄS MER
5. Rhodium diesel-reforming catalysts for fuel cell applications
Sammanfattning : Heavy-duty diesel truck engines are routinely idled at standstill to provide cab heating or air conditioning, and in addition to supply electricity to comfort units such as radio and TV. Idling is an inefficient and unfavorable process resulting in increased fuel consumption, increased emissions, shortened engine life, impaired driver rest and health, and elevated noise. LÄS MER
