    Sammanfattning : Emission sources in proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions at intermediate energies have been studied. Pion excitation functions from the absolute threshold to 500 MeV have been measured with an ion beam of continuously varying energy with an energy resolution of 1 MeV. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The properties of the basic building blocks of nuclear matter, the quarks, and their interactions are not known in detail, largely because observations are complicated by the confinement of quarks in composite particles. New insights can be gained from the study of nuclear matter in a deconfined phase, like the form of matter that the Universe consited of early in its evolution according to the Big Bang theory.     Sammanfattning : This thesis presents a three-particle correlation analysis with pions originating from Sulphur-Lead and Lead-Lead collisions at 200 and 158 GeV/c per nucleon respectively, taken by the CERN heavy-ion experiment NA44. The genuine three-body correlation is suppressed in both colliding systems which indicates that the particle production source is partly coherent. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The subject of this thesis is experimental studies of electron-transfer processes in ion-atom collisions at velocities significantly higher than typical orbital velocities of electrons in bound states of atoms or molecules. The experimental technique applied combines the high beam intensity of heavy-ion storage rings with a supersonic gas-jet target equipped with a recoil-ion-momentum spectrometer. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : High-energy heavy-ion collisions allow the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) production and study, a state of high-density QCD matter in which quarks and gluons are no longer confined inside hadrons for a very short time. Different observables reveal an enhanced production of strange hadrons, signatures of collective effects and opacity to jets due to the QGP formation. LÄS MER
