  1. 16. Analysis of Immunoglobulin Genes and Telomeres in B cell Lymphomas and Leukemias

    Författare :Sarah Walsh; Richard Rosenquist; Christer Sundström; Anna Laurell; Andreas Rosenwald; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; B cell lymphoma leukemia; mantle cell lymphoma; hairy cell leukemia; lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma; immunoglobulin genes; antigen selection; telomeres; cellular origin; somatic hypermutation; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : B cell lymphomas and leukemias are heterogeneous tumors with different cellular origins. Analysis of immunoglobulin (Ig) genes enables insight into the B cell progenitor, as Ig somatic hypermutation correlates with antigen-related B cell transit through the germinal center (GC). LÄS MER

  2. 17. Early domestication? : Phenotypic alterations of Red Junglefowl selected for divergent fear of humans

    Författare :Beatrix Agnvall; Per Jensen; Hannah Rowland; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Domestication is the process through which animals adapt to conditions provided by humans. The domesticated phenotype differs from wild ancestors in a number of traits relating to physiology, morphology and behaviour. LÄS MER

  3. 18. MHC polymorphism in a songbird : Fitness, mate choice, and sexual conflict

    Författare :Jacob Roved; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Major histocompatibility complex; MHC diversity; MHC haplotypes; sexually antagonistic selection; costs of immune responses; adaptive immunity; great reed warbler; songbird;

    Sammanfattning : Sex differences in immune responses have been observed across a wide range of animal species, with the generaltendency that males have weaker immune responses than females. These differences are at least partly caused by immune-regulating effects of sex hormones, and have been associated with an increased prevalence of autoimmune disorders in females and with a general tendency for males to be parasitized more often than females. 4. 19. Mating system evolution and self-incompatibility in the wild plant species Brassica cretica

    Författare :Kristina Aaltonen; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mating system; Brassicaceae; Brassica cretica; recombination; frequency-dependent selection; evolution; population structure; segregation distortion; SCR; self-incompatibility; SRK;

    Sammanfattning : Compared to animals like ourselves, plants have a very flexible sexual life. Most plants are, for example, hermaphrodites with the potential capacity for reproduction by self-fertilization (or selfing). LÄS MER

  5. 20. Chicken Genomics - Linkage and QTL mapping

    Författare :Per Wahlberg; Leif Andersson; Ruedi Fries; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chicken; quantitative genetics; linkage map; QTL mapping; recombination; long-term selection; Z chromosome; selective sweep; SNP; Genetics; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents results from genetic studies conducted in the chicken (Gallus gallus). The domestication of chicken is believed to have been initiated approximately 7,000 – 9,000 years ago in Southeast Asia. LÄS MER
