  1. 11. Ectomycorrhizal community structure and function in relation to forest residue harvesting and wood ash applications

    Författare :Shahid Mahmood; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; 14C allocation; P uptake; Calcium oxalate; Solubilisation; Tricalcium phosphate; Wood ash; Forest residue; N deposition; rDNA; ITS region; PCR-RFLP; Spruce; Ectomycorrhiza; Community structure; Wood ash colonisation; Spruce colonisation; Competition; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Ectomycorrhizal fungi form symbiotic associations with tree roots and assist in nutrient-uptake and -cycling in forest ecosystems, thereby constituting a most significant part of the microbial community. The aims of the studies described in this thesis were to evaluate the potential of DNA-based molecular methods in below-ground ectomycorrhizal community studies and to investigate changes in ectomycorrhizal communities on spruce roots in sites with different N deposition, and in sites subjected to harvesting of forest residues or application of wood ash. 2. 12. Limitations and possibilities for microbial degradation of organic contaminants in aquifers

    Författare :Christel Carlsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ekologi; mycology; Mikrobiologi; Hydrobiology; biodegradation; Organic contaminants; redox conditions; sorption; DOM; cometabolism; biomass; microbial activity; microbial community composition; Ecology; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; bakteriologi; mykologi; virologi; aquatic ecology; marine biology; limnology; Miljökemi; Environmental chemistry; akvatisk ekologi; Marinbiologi; limnologi;

    Sammanfattning : Many factors can influence the rate of microbial degradation of organic contaminants in aquifers. Some of these factors, e.g. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Wood-Decomposing Fungi: Soil colonization, effects on indigenous bacterial community in soil and hydroxyl radical production

    Författare :Karin Tornberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; hydroxyl radicals; fungal growth; interactions; soil colonization; bacterial community; soil; brown-rot fungi; wood-decomposing fungi; white-rot fungi; Ekologi; Microbiology; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The extracellular enzyme activities of wood-decomposing basidiomycetes are essential for wood degradation, but are also able to degrade various recalcitrant organic pollutants. The possible application of wood-decomposing fungi in bioremediation has increased the interest in understanding their growth and activity in soil. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Links Between Structure and Function of Heterotrophic Aquatic Bacterial Communities

    Författare :Silke Langenheder; Lars Tranvik; Eva Lindström; David Kirchman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; heterotrophic bacteria; dissolved organic matter; diversity; community composition; ecosystem functioning; salinity; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Heterotrophic bacteria utilize dissolved organic matter, and the carbon flow through an ecosystem depends on the fractions of the utilized carbon that is either respired or transferred to higher trophic levels. The major aim this thesis is to investigate 1) the relationship between composition and functioning in heterotrophic bacterioplankton communities and 2) the influence of environmental conditions on both parameters. 5. 15. From pattern to process : Studies on limestone grassland, with emphasis on the bryophyte-lichen layer and its effects on vascular plants

    Författare :Manuela Zamfir; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; Alvar; Bryophytes; Carousel model; Community structure; Competition; Dynanmics; Interactions; Lichens; PASFRAN; pattern analysis; Sweden; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : Patterns in space and time at different scales in the bryophyte-lichen layer, aud multi-species spatial patterns of bryophytes, lichens and vascular plants were studied in Avenetum limestone grassland on the Great Alvar of the Baltic Island of Öland, south-eastem Sweden.Spatiotemporal patterns of bryophytes and Iichens in grazed and ungrazed alvar grassland demonstrated that dominant species forming large patches were relatively stable in time, whereas less frequent species forming small patches were more mobile.
