11. Dopachrome and aminochrome, the oxidized metabolites of dopa and dopamine : studies on the molecular mechanisms underlying their reduction and conjugation with glutathione
Sammanfattning : Dopamine, like other catecholamines can be oxidized to the corresponding ortho-quinone, which undergoes cyclization of its amino chain to cyclized dopamine ortho-quinone (aminochrome). Both o-quinones are toxic metabolites that may contribute to neurotoxic effects of these catecholamines. LÄS MER
12. Analysis of ginesenosides
Sammanfattning : New analytical methods were developed in order to evaluate commercial ginseng preparations and to allow studies on urinary excretion of ginsenosides in humans after consumption of ginseng preparations. An optimized alkaline procedure was developed for cleavage of the glycosidic bonds that was clearly superior to previously reported hydrolysis procedures of ginsenosides because of (a) completeness of the reaction and (b) absence of the artifacts found in acid hydrolysis. 13. Limonene Hydroperoxides in Allergic Contact Dermatitis. Radical Formation, Sensitizing Capacity and Immunogenic Complex Formation
Sammanfattning : Contact allergy to fragrance compounds is an increasing problem in the western countries today. R-Limonene is one of the most common fragrance compounds; it is used in hygiene products and cosmetics as well as in industrial products such as hand cleansers and degreasers. LÄS MER
14. Bioelectronic Approaches for On-Demand Generation of Reactive Oxygen Species
Sammanfattning : Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are an integral part of our lives. They perform essential functions in our biology and are, due to their high oxidative power, key molecules in advanced oxidation processes in industrial applications such as treatment of wastewater. LÄS MER
15. Phytoglobins: Elucidation of Structural, Functional and Practical Features of Non-Symbiotic Plant Hemoglobins
Sammanfattning : Phytoglobins (Pgb) (plant hemoglobins) are heme-containing proteins and less well known in comparison to the mammalian counterparts hemoglobin (Hb) andmyoglobin (Mb). They share the same secondary structure as other globin-related proteins, six to eight α-helices comprising the myoglobin-fold (Mb-fold) with one prosthetic heme moiety per subunit. LÄS MER
