  1. 1. Tissue remodelling in pulmonary fibrosis linked to 5-HT2 receptor activation

    Författare :Anna Löfdahl; Lungbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Serotonin 5HT ; Serotonin class 2 receptor antagonist; Fibroblast; Pulmonary fibrosis; Extracellular matrix ECM ;

    Sammanfattning : After an injury, an immediate reparative response is triggered to replace the damaged tissue, however, in fibrosis, cells remain active despite wound resolution causing a steady build-up of fibrotic tissue. In pulmonary fibrosis,there is a constant regeneration and remodelling of lung tissue where the thin architecture of alveoli become thickened, hampering efficient diffusion of oxygen, as seen in diseases like idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). 2. 2. Gut Feelings - From Brain to Gut and from Lumen to Gut

    Författare :Xiaowen Cheng; Neurogastroenterologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Enteric nervous system; cerebral ischemia; galectine-3; tuft cell; CGRP; CCK; GLP-1; 5HT; PYY;

    Sammanfattning : Part 1: From Brain to GutThe brain is an organ with a high energy requirement. To meet this demand, the brain needs a continuous and well-regulated blood supply. In situations where the brain, or parts of the brain, does not receive sufficient blood flow injury arise. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies on 5-hydroxytryptophol and the metabolic interaction between serotonin and ethanol

    Författare :Margareta Some; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :serotonin; 5-hydroxytryptophol; 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid; ethanol; metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : The biogenic amine serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5HT) is most abundant within the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), in blood platelets, and in the central nervous system. The 5HT system is involved in many physiological and behavioural processes in the body. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Imaging and Quantification of Brain Serotonergic Activity using PET

    Författare :Pinelopi Lundquist; Margareta Hammarlund-Udenaes; Per Hartvig; Gunnar Blomquist; Paul Cumming; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Pharmacokinetics Pharmacotherapy; Brain serotonin; Neurotransmitter release; Neurotransmitter synthesis; Positron emission tomography; Tracer validation; Tracer modelling; Farmakokinetik Farmakoterapi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the potential of using positron emission tomography (PET) to study the biosynthesis and release of serotonin (5HT) at the brain serotonergic neuron. As PET requires probe compounds with specific attributes to enable imaging and quantification of biological processes, emphasis was placed on the evaluation of these attributes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Neuroactive steroids and rat CNS

    Författare :Vita Birzniece; Bo Söderpalm; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Estradiol; progesterone; HRT; allopregnanolone; UC1011; serotonin receptor; GABAA receptor; mRNA; Morris water maze; silent second; tolerance; Clinical Neurophysiology; klinisk neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Several studies suggest profound effects on mood and cognition by neuroactive steroids. Estrogen alone or in combination with antidepressant drugs affecting the serotonin system has been used to treat mood disorders. On the other hand, progesterone is related to negative effects on mood and memory. LÄS MER
