16. Dispersion Engineering : Negative Refraction and Designed Surface Plasmons in Periodic Structures
Sammanfattning : The dispersion property of periodic structures is a hot research topic in the last decade. By exploiting dispersion properties, one can manipulate the propagation of electromagnetic waves, and produce effects that do not exist in conventional materials. LÄS MER
17. ON THE COUPLING OF THE LOCALIZED PLASMON AND INTERBAND TRANSITIONS IN NICKEL NANOANTENNAS
Sammanfattning : Interaction of light with metallic nanostructures smaller than the wavelength leads to excitation of collective oscillations of “free” conduction electrons. This effect leads to locally enhanced electric fields inside and outside the nanoparticle and is called localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). LÄS MER
18. Nanoplasmonics for Absorption Engineering and Hydrogen Sensing
Sammanfattning : When light interacts with metallic nanoparticles smaller than its wavelength it can excite a collective oscillation of the conduction electrons that gives rise to efficient light absorption and scattering. Moreover, locally strongly enhanced electric fields are created around the particles. LÄS MER
19. Plasmonic Nanostructures for Optical Absorption Engineering and Hydrogen Sensing
Sammanfattning : Nanoplasmonics concerns the interactions between light and metal nanoparticles. In this thesis nanoplasmonics is used in two different ways: i) to control and enhance light absorption, and ii) for optical hydrogen sensing. LÄS MER
20. Fragment Based Drug Discovery with Surface Plasmon Resonance Technology
Sammanfattning : Fragment based drug discovery (FBDD) has been applied to two protease drug targets, MMP-12 and HIV-1 protease. The primary screening and characterization of hit fragments were performed with surface plasmon resonance -technology. Further evaluation of the interaction was done by inhibition studies and in one case with X-ray crystallography. LÄS MER
