  1. 1. Adhesion to machined and laser ablated wood surfaces

    Författare :Micael Stehr; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; ablation; adhesion; checks; coating; cracks; excimer laser; gluing; IR laser; mechanical machining; mechanical weak boundary layer; microscopy; notched specimens; pine; planing; sample preparation; sawing; scanning electronmicroscopy; spruce; tip-cracks; UV laser; weak boundary layer; wood;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is a contribution to the R&D-program ValueActivation at KTH,Division of Wood Technology and Processingand containsfive papers related to the evaluation and development ofmachining techniques (mechanical and irradiation treatments)whereby weak boundaries at the wood surfaces in the form of(mechanical) weak boundary layers and (micro) cracks due tomechanical treatment can be avoided.The first paper describes the development of a method–using a UV laser–to study the mechanically weakenedboundaries. 2. 2. Wood Fingerprints : Recognition of Sawn Wood Products

    Författare :Tobias Pahlberg; Cris Luengo; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träproduktutveckling; Wood Products Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with wood fingerprints and presents ways to track sawn wood products through an industrial process using cameras. The possibility to identify individual wood products comes from the biological variation of the trees, where the genetic code, environment and breakdown process creates a unique appearance for every board. Sammanfattning : Through 270 million years of evolution, the finely tuned hierarchical structure of wood has been optimized for efficient nutrient transport and exceptional mechanical stability. Its distinctive orthotropic constitution can provide inspiration and design opportunities for the development of novel functional materials. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Development towards an efficient and sustainable biofuel drying

    Författare :Peter Bengtsson; Thomas Thörnqvist; Tom Morén; Växjö universitet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; biomass; bioenergy; drying; bed drying; drying zone; modeling; VOC; terpenes; wood fuels; wood chips; sawdust; Norway spruce; Scots pine;

    Sammanfattning : The usage of biofuel as well as wood fuel has increased in Sweden and all of Europe during recent decades, and there are several reasons to believe that this increase will continue. An important reason for this increase is that the environmental and climate problems caused by fossil fuels are becoming even more evident. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Characterization, toxicity and treatment of wood leachate generated outdoors by the wood-based industry

    Författare :Henric Svensson; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Wood leachate; Log yard runoff; Stormwater; Toxicity; Artemia salina; Vibrio fischeri; Constructed wetlands; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Wood is a natural raw material, and would hardly be considered a risk to the environment. However, the handling of wood materials on an industrial scale has been shown to have a negative impact on water bodies that run-off from industrial sites that process wood-based materials. LÄS MER
