    Sammanfattning : Fundamental studies on thermodynamic properties of vanadium-containing oxides systems are essential to understand practical vanadium metallurgical process. The CALPHAD technique is here applied to the thermodynamic modelling of the V-O, Ca-V-O and Ti-V-O systems. The compound energy formalism is used for all the solution phases. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : In view of the extensive use of Cr as a grain growth inhibitor in WC-Co cemented carbides this thesis comprises a combined experimental and ab initio study of a number of critical issues pertaining to phase equilibria of the subsystems to the W-Co-Cr-C system.To be able to predict which of the stable Cr-carbides forms above the solubility limits of Cr and C in the fcc phase the respective solubility of Co in Cr23C6, Cr7C3 and Cr3C2 are investigated experimentally.     Sammanfattning : Lightweight steels have attracted considerable interest for automobile applications due to the weight reduction without loss of high strength and with retained excellent plasticity. In austenitic Fe-Mn-Al-C steels, the nano-precipitation of the κ-carbide within the austenitic matrix significantly contributes to the increase in yield strength. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Abstract A linear chain of glucose monomers, cellulose, provides the structural reinforcement of the cell walls of plants and constitutes almost half of their dry mass.
