  1. 1. Stroke severity and outcome : in search of predictors using a population-based strategy

    Författare :Peter Appelros; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Stroke; incidence; epidemiology; risk factors; prognosis; outcome;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis, based on studies conducted in Örebro, the main municipality of Örebro County in Sweden, sought: 1) to determine the incidence rate and case fatality of first-ever stroke in a well-defined population; 2) to show the effects of selection bias on the frequency of different stroke characteristics; 3) to establish the incidence of neglect and anosognosia and their impact on disability; 4) to show the impact of pre-stroke risk factors on stroke severity and case fatality; and 5) to show the influence of stroke severity and other risk factor on one year mortality, on dependency after one year and on the risk of recurrent stroke. All first-ever cases of stroke were registered during a 12-month period 1999-2000. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Life-course influences on occurrence and outcome for stroke and coronary heart disease

    Sammanfattning : Although typical clinical onset does not occur until adulthood, cardiovascular disease (CVD) may have a long natural history with accumulation of risks beginning in early life and continuing through childhood and into adolescence and adulthood. Therefore, it is important to adopt a life-course approach to explore accumulation of risks, as well as identifying age-defined windows of susceptibility, from early life to disease onset. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Everyday activities in older adults readmitted to hospital

    Författare :Marie Jönsson; Marie Holmefur; Carin Fredriksson; Peter Appelros; Ingeborg Nilsson; Örebro universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The coordination of health care and social care at discharge are particularly important for older adults with complex health and social needs, as approximately 30 % of these persons are readmitted to hospital on an unplanned basis within three months of discharge. In order to provide adequate care for this group of older adults, we need a deeper understanding of their experiences regarding their functional ability at hospital and at home. LÄS MER
