11. N-acetylaspartate in brain - studies on efflux and function
Sammanfattning : N-acetylaspartate (NAA) is an amino acid derivative present in high concentration in the brain. The function of NAA is still unsettled in spite of 50 years of research. The mainly neuronal synthesis and glial breakdown of NAA requires a well regulated neuronal efflux and glial uptake. LÄS MER
12. Nitrogen, parasites and plants : key interactions in boreal forest ecosystems
Sammanfattning : In the work described in this thesis I studied how increases in nitrogen (N) inputs may affect plant community structure in boreal forest understorey vegetation. These phenomena were investigated in N fertilization experiments and along a national N deposition gradient. LÄS MER
13. Peatland Bryophytes in a Changing Environment : Ecophysiological Traits and Ecosystem Function
Sammanfattning : Peatlands are peat forming ecosystems in which not fully decomposed plant material builds up the soil. The sequestration of carbon into peat is mainly associated with the bryophyte genus Sphagnum (peat mosses), which dominate and literally form most peatlands. LÄS MER
14. Office type, performance and well-being : A study of how personality and work tasks interact with contemporary office environments and ways of working
Sammanfattning : Today, many organisations are adopting offices that have an open design with or without flexible seating. While advocates of open-plan offices propose that these office types lead to cost savings and aid inter and intra-team communication, opponents argue that these office types are associated with decreased performance and worsened health among employees. 15. Quantitative NanoSIMS provides subcellular concentration and distribution of oligonucleotide therapeutics
Sammanfattning : Antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) represent a powerful therapeutic modality that can selectively modulate gene expression. However, ASOs face two major hurdles that restrict their use in the clinic. The first issue is delivery of the ASO to a tissue of therapeutic interest while reducing exposure to unrelated tissues.
