  1. 1. Mitochondrial and Eukaryotic Origins : A Phylogenetic Perspective

    Författare :Björn Brindefalk; Siv Andersson; James McInerney; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular evolution; Phylogenetics; Mitochondrial origin and Evolution; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are eukaryotic cellular organelles responsible for power-generation, believed to have come into existence by an endo-symbiontic event where a bacterial cell was incorporated by an un-specified "proto-eukaryote". Phylogenetic analysis have shown that the mitochondrial ancestor was most related to present-day alpha-proteobacteria, although the exact nature of the mitochondrial progenitor remains disputed. 2. 2. Molecular Phylogenetics of Mammals

    Författare :Morgan Kullberg; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Genetics; EST; divergence times; phylogenomics; phylogenetic reconstruction; Mammals; Eutheria; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the phylogenetic relationships of the Mammalia have been studied at various levels. Different sources of genetic information have been evaluated and used as phylogenetic markers. These include the well-known mitochondrial genome, cDNA from housekeeping genes and expressed sequence tags from nuclear genes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Infection kinetics, phylogenetics, and host interactions of bacteriophages

    Författare :Shazeeda Koonjan; Anders S. Nilsson; Lone Brøndsted; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bacteriophage biology; infection kinetics; phylogenetics; host interactions; phage therapy; phage ecology and evolution; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Sammanfattning : Bacteriophages, or as they are most commonly referred to as phages, are viruses which are capable of infecting bacteria. They are environmentally plenty, found everywhere from the ground we walk on to contributing to our microbiome. They are highly diverse, coming in various sizes, shapes, and genomic compositions. 4. 4. Evolutionary Perspectives on Naidinae (Annelida, Clitellata, Naididae): Molecular and Morphological Revelations

    Författare :Ida Envall; Christer Erséus; Lena Gustavsson; Mari Källersjö; Endre Willassen; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Naididae; Naidinae; phylogenetics; molecular systematics; morphology; ultrastructure; Biology; Biologi; systematisk zoologi; Systematic Zoology;

    Sammanfattning : Naidinae is a group of tiny oligochaetous clitellates, common all over the world, primarily in freshwater. The taxon includes about 180 nominal species. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Evolution of Interactions Involving Intrinsically Disordered Proteins

    Författare :Emma Åberg; Per Jemth; Madan Babu; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; intrinsically disordered proteins; protein evolution; phylogenetics; ancestral sequence reconstruction; biophysical characterization; NCBD; CID; p53; MDM2; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär evolution; Biology with specialization in Molecular Evolution; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis describes the evolution of intrinsically disordered proteins and their interaction partners. The work presented is a combination of phylogenetic analysis, ancestral reconstruction and biophysical characterization in order to examine the evolutionary trajectory of protein-protein interactions involving disorder.
