21. Some aspects of convection as well as graphite and carbide formations during casting
Sammanfattning : It is an established fact that segregation during casting affects the physical properties of carbon-based ferro alloys; this motivates the study of the segregation behaviour of carbon and carbide-forming solute elements. In this context, this thesis investigates two different situations: the effects of cooling rate and turbulence on the precipitation behaviour of the graphite nodules in nodular cast iron; the nature of carbide precipitation in a bearing steel grade and the effects of subsequent soaking on these carbides. 22. Investigations on the Formation of Defect Bands in Semi-Solid High Pressure Die Cast Aluminium-Silicon Alloys
Sammanfattning : High-pressure die casting of semi-solid aluminium-silicon alloys is used in the automotive industry to manufacture components, like housings, brackets, and bars. It is commonly known that during high-pressure die casting, defect bands may be created that follow the contour of the component surface. These bands consist mainly of a eutectic phase. LÄS MER
23. The Atmospheric Corrosion of Magnesium Alloys : Influence of Microstructure and Environments
Sammanfattning : The low density and high specific strength of magnesium alloys have created a great deal of interest in the use of these alloys in the automotive and aerospace industries and in portable electronics. All of these industries deal with applications in which weight is extremely important. LÄS MER
24. Aspects on finite element simulation of sheet metal forming processes
Sammanfattning : This thesis has focused on four different aspects of finite element simulation of sheet metal forming processes. Four substantial research areas are the development of a methodology for predicting the limiting strains in connection with the Forming Limit Diagram, the applicable mode of procedure for finite element simulation of the hydromechanical deep drawing process, the adaptive mesh refinement strategy based on gradients of the effective plastic stresses and strains; and the reliability and sensitivity assessments within sheet metal forming processes. 25. Mixing Time and Decarburization Reactions in Side-blown Metallurgical Converters : A Practical Approach using CFD and Thermodynamics
Sammanfattning : The side-blowing Argon Oxygen converter (AOD), known for its intense gas stirring and turbulentnature, poses complex fluid dynamics and thermodynamic challenges. Modeling has played asubstantial role in the development of metallurgical converters, particularly in understanding jetbehavior, mixing, flow patterns, and chemical reactions. LÄS MER
