  1. 11. Assessment of Raw Materials in Stainless Steelmaking-Their Energy Consumption and Greenhouse Gas Emission

    Författare :Wei Wenjing; Anders Tilliander; Peter Samuelsson; Pär Jönsson; Ye Guozhu; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; static process model; mass and energy balance; molybdenum; nickel; phosphorus; stainless steel; life cycle assessment; GHG emission; energy consumption; statisk procesmodell; mass- och energibalans; molybden; nickel; fosfor; rostfritt stål; livscykelanalys; växthusgasutsläpp; energiförbrukning; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : In stainless steelmaking, around 68% of the total greenhouse gas emissions come from the processing of raw materials. Thus, it is important for steelmakers to make efforts together with their raw material suppliers to implement low-carbon initiatives. To facilitate such initiatives, assessment of raw materials will provide guidance. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Thermal Stability and Mechanical Properties of Bainitic Steel

    Författare :Adam Ståhlkrantz; Annika Borgenstam; Peter Hedström; Niklas Sarius; Joacim Hagström; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bainite; Austempering; Low alloyed steel; Tempering; Variant pairing; Material characterization; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : For material design it is important to understand and establish the relations between the processing of the steel, the resulting microstructure and how that correlate to the properties of the steel. The main focus of this thesis has been to increase this knowledge for low alloy bainitic steels with medium to high carbon content. LÄS MER

  4. 14. A study of micro-particles in the dust and melt at different stages of iron and steelmaking

    Författare :Muhammad Nabeel; Andrey Karasev; Lauri Holappa; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Particle size distribution; ironmaking; iron ore pellets; dust generation; mechanical wear; friction; reduction; REM clusters; Electrolytic extraction; cluster size distribution; growth mechanism; collisions; statistical analysis.; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Materials Science and Engineering; Metallurgical process science; Metallurgisk processvetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The dust particles generated due to mechanical wear of iron ore pellets and clusters formed in molten stainless steel alloyed with rare earth metals (REM) are considered in this study. Firstly, the influence of the characteristics of iron ore pellets, applied load on a pellet bed and partial reduction of the pellets on the size distribution of the generated dust was investigated. Sammanfattning : This thesis work concerns about the importance of the cast surfaces, surface phenomenon such as the formation of the oscillation marks and exudation and related defects including cracks and segregation that happened during the continuous casting. All of the investigated materials were collected during the plant trials while an in-depth analysis on these materials was performed at the laboratory scale with certain explanations supported by the schematic and theoretical models.
