  1. 1. Verification of high energy photon therapy based on PET/CT imaging of photonuclear reactions

    Författare :Sara Janek Strååt; Anders Brahme; Cathrine Jonsson; Iuliana Dasu; Sibylle Ziegler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photonuclear reactions; PET CT treatment verification; High-energy photon therapy; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Sammanfattning : For classical and intensity modulated radiation therapy of deep-seated tumors, high-energy photons are the optimal radiation modality from an integral dose point of view. By using narrow scanned beams the treatment outcome can be improved substantially by delivering biologically optimized intensity modulated distributions often with sharp dose gradients. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Using Low Energy Light to Enable High Energy Photochemistry

    Författare :Wera Larsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; triplet-triplet annihilation; solar energy conversion; photochemistry; molecular photoswitches; photochemical upconversion; triplet sensitization; fluorescence modulation;

    Sammanfattning : Manipulating light to meet human needs is pivotal in various research fields and technological applications, ranging from solar energy conversion to photodynamic therapy and fluorescence imaging of cells and tissues. This thesis addresses the spectral mismatches between available light and the specific energy requirements of target photochemical reactions by employing low-energy light to control high-energy photochemistry. 3. 3. Analysis of quality characteristics of radiotherapeutic photon beams

    Författare :Bo Nilsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Photon therapy; lepton contamination; photon contamination; surface dose; perturbation effects;

    Sammanfattning : The lepton and photon contamination of high energy photon beams for radiation therapy has been investigated computationally and experimentally. The contaminating particles will effect the quality of the beam by increasing the surface dose, degrading the uniformity of the beam, broadening the penumbra, and increasing the energy imparted outside the useful beam. 4. 4. Developing and evaluating dose calculation models for verification of advanced radiotherapy

    Författare :Jörgen Olofsson; Mikael Karlsson; Anders Ahnesjö; Crister Ceberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiation therapy; high-energy photons; dose calculation; multi-source model; pencil kernel; uncertainties; action levels; Radiological physics; Radiofysik;

    Sammanfattning : A prerequisite for modern radiotherapy is the ability to accurately determine the absorbed dose (D) that is given to the patient. The subject of this thesis has been to develop and evaluate efficient dose calculation models for high-energy photon beams delivered by linear accelerators. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Development of improved radiation therapy techniques using narrow scanned photon beams

    Författare :Björn Andreassen; Anders Brahme; Håkan Danared; Roger Svensson; Antony Lomax; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :IMRT; Scanned photon beams; PET-CT treatment verification; Monte Carlo; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; Medical Radiation Physics; medicinsk strålningsfysik;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis is focused on the development and application of narrow scanned high energy photon beam for radiation therapy. The introduction of physically and biologically optimized intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) requires a flexible and accurate dose delivery method to maximize the treatment outcome. LÄS MER
