  1. 21. Landlocked Atlantic salmon Salmo salar L. and trout Salmo trutta L. in the regulated River Klarälven, Sweden : Implications for conservation and management

    Författare :Johnny R Norrgård; Eva Bergman; Hans Lundqvist; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Conservation and management of migratory salmonids requires an understanding of their ecology at multiple scales, and a holistic view, including assessment of historical and present anthropogenic impacts. In the regulated River Klarälven, with 11 hydropower dams, populations of landlocked Atlantic salmon Salmo salar and migratory brown trout Salmo trutta have declined due to human activities. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Migration and quality of landlocked Atlantic salmon smolt : Implications for conservation and management

    Författare :Johnny R Norrgård; Eva Bergman; Larry A Greenberg; Monika Schmitz; Martyn Lucas; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; acoustic telemetry; hatchery; life history; migration mortality; regulated rivers; Salmo salar; salmon; smolt; trout; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Atlantic salmon Salmo salar has a complex life cycle, including long migrations and habitat shifts for both juveniles and adults. As such, salmon populations are vulnerable to habitat degradation and fragmentation along their migratory routes. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia, molecular epidemiology and host immune response

    Författare :Gunlög Rasmussen; Bo Söderquist; Kristoffer Strålin; Eva Särndahl; Peter Bergman; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Staphylococcus aureus; molecular epidemiology; DNAmicroarray; bacteremia; sepsis; NLRP3; inflammasome; caspase-1; HLA-DR; HLA-DRA; CD74;

    Sammanfattning : Staphylococcus aureus is a major pathogen responsible for a considerable disease burden worldwide. It may cause a wide array of infections, from superficial skin infections to invasive bacteremia and complications such as infective endocarditis (IE) and osteomyelitis. This thesis aimed to investigate aspects of the molecular epidemiology of S. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Salmonid behaviour under winter conditions

    Författare :Johan Watz; Larry Greenberg; Eva Bergman; John Piccolo; Richard Cunjak; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; drift; energy budget; foraging; grayling; ice cover; lotic; metabolic rate; predation; salmon; stream; stress; temperature; trout; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : Winter conditions are believed to play an important role in the population dynamics of northern temperate stream fish, challenging the ability of fish to physiologically and behaviourally adapt. Climate change is predicted to increase both mean temperature and temperature fluctuations, especially during winter, leading to dynamic environmental conditions in terms of river ice production and flow. 5. 25. Winter behaviour of stream salmonids: effects of temperature, light, and ice cover

    Författare :Johan Watz; Larry Greenberg; Eva Bergman; John Piccolo; Svein Jakob Saltveit; Karlstads universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; stream salmonids; winter behaviour; efftect of temperatur; light; ice cover; environment; fish populations; Biology; Biologi;

    Sammanfattning : In boreal streams, stream salmonids typically face low water temperatures and variable ice conditions during winter, and thus stream salmonids are expected to use different behavioural strategies to cope with these environmental conditions. The studies presented in this thesis explore how temperature, light intensity, and surface ice affect salmonid behaviour, with focus on drift-feeding and ventilation rates. LÄS MER
