1. Vascular Endothelin and Angiotensin Receptors Regulation in Inflammatory Arterial Disorders
Sammanfattning : The present thesis is aimed to examine the hypothesis that the degree of vascular inflammation correlates with the expression of vascular endothelin and angiotensin receptors. The receptor changes were studied in subcutaneous resistance arteries in patients with different degrees of ischemic heart disease (IHD). LÄS MER
2. Endothelin receptor changes during inflammation in the lung
Sammanfattning : Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is an extremely potent smooth muscle spasmogen well known from the vascular system but also active within the airways. The importance of its proinflammatory and co-mitogenic properties has become increasingly evident, the endothelin system also having been shown to mimic the signal features of asthma, COPD and other pulmonary diseases. LÄS MER
3. Receptor Upregulation and MAPK Activity in Arteries and Bronchi Following Secondhand Smoke Exposure
Sammanfattning : Cigarette smoking is a major risk factor for cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. Contractile receptor changes have been observed in several vascular diseases. The intracellular mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways are suggested to be associated with receptor upregulation. LÄS MER
4. Vascular receptor changes in ischemic stroke
Sammanfattning : The present thesis aimed to examine how ischemic stroke affects the vascular endothelin and angiotensin systems in cerebral arteries. To study vascular receptor changes in ischemic stroke transient focal ischemia was induced in rats. LÄS MER
5. Neurohormonal Modulators in the Parathyroid Gland. Localization and regulation
Sammanfattning : The occurrence and distribution of neurohormonal peptides, neuroendocrine markers and receptors in parathyroid nerve fibers and endocrine cells are described, using immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization, image analysis and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction. Immunocytochemical studies revealed that parathyroid glands of chicken, rat, guinea-pig, cat, dog and sheep contained adrenergic-, cholinergic-, and peptide-containing nerve fibers. LÄS MER
