21. Nickel allergy and hand eczema : epidemiological aspects
Sammanfattning : Nickel allergy is the most prevalent contact allergy and has been discussed as a possible riskfactor for hand eczema. However, hand eczema is one of the most frequently occurring skindiseases and has multifactorial origin. The aim of this thesis was to study the association between nickel allergy and hand eczema in the general population. LÄS MER
22. Individual and environmental risk factors for hand eczema in hospital workers
Sammanfattning : Individual and environmental risk factors in hand eczema have been investigated in a prospective cohort study of 2452 newly employed hospital workers with a follow-up time of 20 months. Current hand eczema was analyzed in 142 wet hospital workers from this cohort with respect to the etiologic importance of irritants, allergens and contact urticants. LÄS MER
23. Effectiveness and costs of new medical technologies : register-based research in psoriasis
Sammanfattning : Psoriasis is a chronic, immunological and systemic disease with an estimated prevalence of about 2-3 percent. Psoriasis is associated with the joint disease psoriasis arthropathy. There are several treatments options available for psoriasis and patients with moderate to severe psoriasis generally need systemic agents. LÄS MER
24. Vitamin A and ß-carotene metabolism and effects of UV irradiation in human keratinocytes and melanocytes
Sammanfattning : Retinoids (vitamin A and its derivatives) are modulators of proliferation and differentiation. Both retinol (ROH) and its metabolite 3,4-didehydroretinol (ddROH) can be converted to retinoic acid (RA) and 3,4-didehydroretinoic acid (ddRA), ligands for the nuclear receptors, which induce gene transcriptions. 25. Dermal cell trafficking : from microscopy to microdialysis
Sammanfattning : The term dermal cell trafficking has been used to describe the dynamic nature of cell movement in the dermis reflecting the skin's role as an immunological organ. A light microscopic experimental model for qualitative and quantitative counting of the dermal inflammatory cell infiltrate in allergic, acute irritant and cumulative irritant contact reactions has been developed In human studies use of microdialysis technique has enabled observation of biochemical events in the skin, in vivo over a period of time.
