  1. 1. Hereditary ichthyosis : Causes, Skin Manifestations, Treatments and Quality of Life

    Författare :Agneta Gånemo; Åke Svensson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dermatology and venereology; Ichthyosis; congenital ichthyosis; genodermatoses; skin disease; quality of life; topical treatment; lactic acid; propylene glycol; Dermatologi och venerologi; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi; Dermatology and Venerology; dermatologi och venereologi;

    Sammanfattning : Hereditary ichthyosis is a collective name for many dry and scaly skin disorders ranging in frequency from common to very rare. The main groups are autosomal recessive lamellar ichthyosis, autosomal dominant epidermolytic hyperkeratosis and ichthyosis vulgaris, and x-linked recessive ichthyosis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Nickel allergy and hand eczema : epidemiological aspects

    Författare :Anna Josefson; Birgitta Meding; Bernt Lindelöf; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; childhood eczema; contact allergy; patch test; population-based; predictive value; questionnaire; self-test; sensitivity; specificity; validity; wet work; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi; Dermatology and Venerology; Dermatologi och venereologi;

    Sammanfattning : Nickel allergy is the most prevalent contact allergy and has been discussed as a possible riskfactor for hand eczema. However, hand eczema is one of the most frequently occurring skindiseases and has multifactorial origin. The aim of this thesis was to study the association between nickel allergy and hand eczema in the general population. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Disease-causing Keratin Mutations and Cytoskeletal Dysfunction in Human Skin : In vitro Models and new Pharmacologic Strategies for Treating Epidermolytic Genodermatoses

    Sammanfattning : Epidermolysis bullosa simplex (EBS) and epidermolytic ichthyosis (EI) are rare skin fragility diseases characterized by intra-epidermal blistering due to autosomal dominant-negative mutations in basal (KRT5 or KRT14) and suprabasal (KRT1 or KRT10) keratin genes,  respectively. Despite vast knowledge in the disease pathogenesis, the pathomechanisms are not fully understood, and no effective remedies exist. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Monocytes, Tissue Factor and Heparin-coated Surfaces : Clinical and Experimental Studies

    Författare :Matilda Johnell; Agneta Siegbahn; Rolf Larsson; Jesper Swedenborg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicine; monocytes; tissue factor; heparin-coated surfaces; coagulation; inflammation; thrombin; cytokines; cardiopulmonary bypass; biocompatibility; migration; chemotaxis; Medicin; Dermatology and venerology; clinical genetics; internal medicine; Dermatologi och venerologi; klinisk genetik; invärtesmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is associated with inflammatory response and activation of coagulation. Heparin coating of the CPB circuit is shown to improve the biocompatibility of the surface. The biological effects of a new heparin surface, the Corline Heparin Surface (CHS), prepared according to a new principle, have been studied. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Retinoic Acid Metabolism Blocking Agents and the Skin : In vivo and in vitro Studies of the Effects on Normal and Diseased Human Epidermis

    Författare :Elizabeth Pavez Loriè; Anders Vahlquist; Hans Törmä; Marie Virtanen; Helen Håkansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CYP; CYP26; retinoids; vitamin A; RAMBA; metabolism; keratinocyte; epidermis; retinoid regulated genes; Dermatology and venerology; Dermatologi och venerologi;

    Sammanfattning : Retinoic Acid Metabolism Blocking Agents (RAMBAs) increase the endogenous levels of all-trans retinoic acid (RA) by inhibiting CYP26 enzymes. Thus they are believed to mimic the effects of retinoid treatment. Their mechanism of action and effects on vitamin A metabolism in keratinocytes are however uncertain. LÄS MER
