21. Inference and Online Learning in Structured Stochastic Systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes to the field of stochastic online learning problems, with a collection of six papers each addressing unique aspects of online learning and inference problems under specific structures. The first four papers focus on exploration and inference problems, uncovering fundamental information-theoretic limits and efficient algorithms under various structures. LÄS MER
22. Model Adaptivity in Elasticity
Sammanfattning : We consider model adaptivity in elasticity for dimensionally reduced forms, and shall treat different conceptual approaches. The basic idea, however, is to adaptively refine, not only the computational mesh, but also the underlying mathematical formulation. LÄS MER
23. On the dynamics of footbridges : A theoretical approach and a comparison between running and walking loads
Sammanfattning : The dynamic behaviour of lightweight footbridges is often susceptible to HumanInduced Loads (HILs). Generally HILs are taken into account as moving harmonicfunctions in which the loading frequency represents the step frequency of the pedestrians. LÄS MER
24. Adaptive finite element methods for plate bending problems
Sammanfattning : The major theme of the thesis is the development of goal-oriented model adaptive continuous-discontinuous Galerkin (c/dG) finite element methods (FEM), for the numerical solution of the Kirchhoff and Mindlin-Reissner (MR) plate models. Hierarchical modeling for linear elasticity on thin domains (beam-like) in two spatial dimensions is also considered, as a natural extension of the Bernoulli and Timoshenko beam theories. LÄS MER
25. On Aggregation and Dynamics of Opinions in Complex Networks
Sammanfattning : This thesis studies two problems defined on complex networks, of which the first explores a conceivable extension of structural balance theory and the other concerns convergence issues in opinion dynamics. In the first half of the thesis we discuss possible definitions of structural balance conditions in a network with preference orderings as node attributes. LÄS MER
