  1. 1. Male moth behaviour and perception in pheromone plumes

    Författare :Peter Valeur; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Djurekologi; Animal ecology; Grapholita molesta; Noctuidae; Lepidoptera; Tortricidae; behaviour; electrophysiology; single cell; flight tunnel; sex pheromone; wind tunnel; radar; flight; pre-exposure; mechanisms of mating disruption; Agrotis segetum; choice test;

    Sammanfattning : Behaviour of male moths and electrophysiological responses of male pheromone-specific olfactory receptor neurones were studied in two model species, the oriental fruit moth Grapholita molesta and the turnip moth Agrotis segetum. The studies were aimed at elucidating the relative importance of different mating disruption mechanisms. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Pheromones, genes & transcriptomes. A molecular analysis of moth sex pheromone production

    Författare :Maria Strandh; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Female moths emit sex pheromones to lure a mate. In this thesis I examined the transcriptomes of female moth pheromone glands in order to identify genes encoding proteins involved in pheromone production. Two cDNA-libraries were constructed from Agrotis segetum (Noctuidae) pheromone glands and the remaining body tissue, respectively. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Circadian Rhythms in Moth Sex Pheromone Communication

    Författare :Germund von Wowern; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physiology of invertebrates; växtparasitologi; Entomologi; plant parasitology; Entomology; Ecology; Ekologi; locomotor activity; social synchronisation; PDH; corazonin; PBAN; pheromone response; sex phermone; Lepidoptera; Ryggradslösa djurs fysiologi; calling behaviour; circadian rhythm;

    Sammanfattning : Sex pheromone communication and related physiological processes are regulated by circadian clock mechanisms in many moth species. This thesis includes studies of circadian rhythms in sexually relevant behaviours and communication in the Egyptian cotton leafworm Spodoptera littoralis, the turnip moth Agrotis segetum, the Indian meal moth Plodia interpunctella and the Mediterranean flour moth Ephestia kuehniella. 4. 4. Disruption of moth mating behaviour by olfactory and auditory cues

    Författare :Glenn Svensson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Djurekologi; ultrasound; predation risk; selection; heritability; flight tunnel; harmonic radar; pest control; mating disruption; pheromone communication; Pyralidae; Lepidoptera; Noctuidae; Animal ecology;

    Sammanfattning : The impact of olfactory and auditory cues on the mating behaviour in two species of moths, Agrotis segetum (Noctuidae) and Plodia interpunctella (Pyralidae), was investigated to evaluate their potential use in integrated pest management. The flight behaviour of male A. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Structure and Function of Odorant Binding Proteins and Chemosensory Proteins in Moths

    Författare :Severine Jansen; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NMR structure; Ecology; Ekologi; Development; Lepidoptera; Odorant Binding Proteins; Chemosensory Proteins;

    Sammanfattning : Odorant Binding Proteins (OBPs) and Chemosensory Proteins (CSPs) are small soluble proteins found in the lymph of insect sensillae located on insect antennae. Odorant Binding proteins are implied in olfaction, by binding hydrophobic odorant molecules and transporting them to the olfactory receptor located on the dendrite of the olfactory neurons. LÄS MER
