  1. 1. Liver cirrhosis-epidemiological and Clinical Aspects

    Författare :Steingerður Anna Gunnarsdóttir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Liver cirrhosis; etiology; alcoholic liver disease; mortality; portal hypertension; esophageal varices; variceal bleeding; hepatitis C; hepatocellular cancer; malignancies; small intestinal motility; small intestinal bacterial overgrowth;

    Sammanfattning : Liver cirrhosis is the end-stage of many different chronic liver diseases. Limited data exists on the epidemiology, natural history and complications of liver cirrhosis such as esophageal varices and malignancies in the Nordic countries after the discovery of hepatitis C (HCV). 2. 2. Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt in the treatment of symptomatic portal hypertension

    Författare :Kerstin Rosenqvist; Rickard Nyman; Charlotte Ebeling Barbier; Fredrik Rorsman; Lars-Gunnar Eriksson; Lars Lönn; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Portal hypertension; TIPS; transjugular; portal venous thrombosis; mesenteric venous thrombosis; liver cirrhosis; interventional radiology; Radiology; Radiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Portal hypertension (PHT) is a condition with serious complications, such as variceal bleeding, refractory ascites and bowel ischemia. The cause of PHT may be pre-, intra- or post-hepatic. Initial treatment is pressure-reducing drugs and the treatment of acute symptoms. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Studies on alcoholic liver disease

    Författare :Knut Stokkeland; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :alcohol cirrhosis; cytochromes; autoantibodies; mortality; morbidity; prognosis; epidemiology; esophageal varices; lifetime drinking; lifetime alcohol intake;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to explore the impact of alcoholic cirrhosis in Sweden, and the relation between drinking patterns and beverage types and alcoholic cirrhosis, and to evaluate the possible role of autoantibodies in the pathogenesis of alcohol related liver disease. We found that rats had appearance of IgG against rat CYP3A 1 and CYP2E 1 during chronic ethanol feeding We found that patients had reactivity against CYP3A4 and CYP2E I in about 20 to 30% and 10 to 20% of the alcoholic sera. 4. 4. Clinical and molecular features of chronic hepatitis C infection and advanced liver disease

    Författare :Nogol Rahbin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to study molecular and clinical aspects of hepatitis C infection (HCV), especially in patients with advanced liver disease. In the first study we investigated whether the use of a second generation contrast agent in ultrasound (US) examinations can improve detection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and characterisation of focal liver lesions in 49 HCV-infected patients with liver cirrhosis.
