16. Bacteria-agglutinating glycoproteins in human saliva : an in vitro study with special reference to Streptococcus mutans
Sammanfattning : The activity and specificity of salivary glycoproteins (agglutinins) aggregating various human indigenous microorganisms were studied in vitro. The agglutinin reacting with a serotype c strain of Streptococcus mutans was isolated and chemically characterized. The results can be summarized as follows:1. LÄS MER
17. Host ligands and oral bacterial adhesion : studies on phosphorylated polypeptides and gp-340 in saliva and milk
Sammanfattning : Infectious diseases e.g. gastric ulcer, caries and perodontitis, are caused by bacteria in a biofilm. Adhesion of bacteria to host ligands e. LÄS MER
18. Immune maturation and modulation in childhood allergies : Aspects of epigenetic, mucosal and systemic immune mediators in allergy development and prevention
Sammanfattning : The prevalence of allergic diseases has in the past century increased among children in affluent societies. Underlying causes are incompletely disentangled, but decreased diversity in environmental and microbial exposures could drive allergy development. LÄS MER
19. The autoimmune regulator : studies of immunological tolerance in mouse and man
Sammanfattning : The aim of the work presented in this thesis was to investigate how failure in the mechanisms that regulate self-tolerance can lead to autoimmune disease. In particular, I have studied a key player in immunological tolerance, the autoimmune regulator gene (AIRE). LÄS MER
20. Secretory Autoantibodies in Rheumatoid Arthritis
Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease in which autoantibodies, such as anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACPA), can be detected in the serum of patients. Autoantibodies may appear in the circulation years before clinical signs of joint inflammation occur, indicating that early immunological pathogenetic steps take place outside of the joints. LÄS MER
