1. The rational use of drugs in a population of very old persons
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigated the use of drugs in a population of very old persons. The pattems of use, particularly of psychotropic drugs, and its appropriateness were assessed. Drug use was also assessed according to dementia diagnosis and in relation to the presence of psychiatric illnesses. LÄS MER
2. Psychoactive prescription drug use disorders, misuse and abuse : Pharmacoepidemiological aspects
Sammanfattning : Background: There is a widespread and increasing use of psychoactive prescription drugs, such as opioid analgesics, anxiolytics, hypnotics and anti-epileptics, but their use is associated with a risk of drug use disorder, misuse and abuse. Today, these are globally recognized and emerging public health concerns. LÄS MER
3. Microgel Interactions with Peptides and Proteins : Consequence of Peptide and Microgel Properties
Sammanfattning : Microgels are lightly cross-linked hydrogel particles in the sub-micrometer to micrometer size range with a capacity to drastically change their volume in response to changes in the external environment. Microgels have an ability to bind and store substances such as biomacromolecular drugs, notably proteins and peptides, and release them upon stimuli, making them potential candidates as drug delivery vehicles and functional biomaterials. 4. Molecular simulations of G protein-coupled receptors : A journey into structure-based ligand design and receptor function
Sammanfattning : The superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) contains a large number of important drug targets. These cell surface receptors recognize extracellular signaling molecules, which stimulates intracellular pathways that play major roles in human physiology. LÄS MER
5. Statistics on local drug sales: A tool to identify problem areas and to follow effects of education on drug use
Sammanfattning : Aims: 1) To assess if drug sales data indicate differences in morbidity, mortality, socio-economic conditions and deviating prescribing habits among physicians; 2) to identify areas for educational interventions and to analyse changes in prescribing after educational activities. In addition, an effort was made to estimate differences between pharmacy sales and purchases by the population, and the amount and value of unused drugs returned to pharmacies. LÄS MER
