6. Waves and instabilities in quantum plasmas
Sammanfattning : The study of waves and instabilities in quantum plasmas is of fundamental importance for understanding collective interactions in superdense astrophysical objects, in high intense laser-plasma/solid-matter interactions, in microelectronic devices and metallic nanostructures. In dense quantum plasmas, there are new pressure laws associated with the Fermi-Dirac distribution functions and new quantum forces associated with the quantum Bohm potential and the Bohr magnetization involving electron ½ spin. 7. Reshaping the phase diagram of YBa2Cu3O7-δ through strain in ultrathin films and nanowires
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims at adding important pieces to the puzzle of understanding the physics of the High critical Temperature Superconductor (HTS) cuprates, where despite over 30 years of intense research many open questions remain. The HTS cuprates are characterized by an incredibly complex phase diagram with multiple intertwined local orders, such as charge density waves (CDW). LÄS MER
8. Effects of polyelectrolyte conformation, charge density and ion specificity in polyelectrolyte and polyelectrolyte-drug interaction
Sammanfattning : The central theme is how the structural characteristics of sulphated polyelectrolytes and theirinteraction with counter- and coions determine the degree of polyelectrolyte self-association (gelformation), interaction with oppositely charged polyelectrolyte and polyelectrolyte-amphiphilic druginteraction in protolytic solvent medium. Such knowledge is essential for understanding and regulatingthe interaction between polyelectrolytes as well as between polyelectrolytes and a drug substance in apharmaceutical formulation and for its fate in the human organism. 9. Electron Transport and Charge Control in Epitaxial Graphene
Sammanfattning : Graphene monolayers and bilayers have attracted research interest in both the physics and electronic materials communities owing to their unique band structures. In a pristine monolayer, carriers travel at the Fermi velocity v_f = 1e8 cm/s and exhibit linear dispersion. LÄS MER
10. Super-grid Linear Eddy Model (SG-LEM): Efficient mode- and regime-independent combustion closure for Large Eddy Simulation (LES)
Sammanfattning : Next-generation combustion technology such as ‘lean burn’ and HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition) present new challenges for combustion modelling. The presence of locally varying combustion modes (premixed vs. non-premixed) and regimes (fast/non-fast chemistry vs. LÄS MER
