  1. 16. Impact of peritoneal solute transport rate on nutritional status and clinical outcome in peritoneal dialysis patients

    Författare :Sung Hee Chung; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Adequacy of dialysis; comorbid diseases; fluid removal; inflammation; mortality; malnutrition; peritoneal dialysis; peritoneal solute transport rate; residual renal function.;

    Sammanfattning : The transport characteristics of the peritoneal membrane may be influenced by inflammation and various comorbid diseases (CMD) in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. On the other hand, the peritoneal solute transport rate (PSTR) may influence patient characteristics such as nutritional status as well as the clinical outcome of PD patients. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Role of GPIbαlpha Clustering and N-linked Carbohydrates in the Clearance of Refrigerated Platelets

    Författare :Emma Josefsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Platelets; GPIbalpha; alphaMbeta2; phagocytosis; refrigerated platelets;

    Sammanfattning : The thesis focuses on understanding the mechanisms by which: 1) the macrophage alphaM-subunit recognizes betaN-acetylglucosamine (betaGlcNAc) residues on the von Willebrand factor receptor complex ((GPIbalpha,beta/IX)2V or vWfR) on refrigerated platelets and 2) refrigeration changes vWfR to elicit recognition through alphaMbeta2. Until recently, the only well-established mechanisms affecting platelet survival were antibody-mediated platelet clearance, consumption of platelets by coagulation reactions, and loss due to massive bleeding. 3. 18. On oral health in children and adults with myotonic dystrophy

    Författare :Monica Engvall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Myotonic dystrophy; dental caries; gingivitis; dental care; oral sugar clearance; behavior management problems;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Myotonic Dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is a hereditary neuromuscular multisystem disease with varying clinical expressions and severity. The prevalence worldwide is 5-20/100 000. It is characterized by progressive muscular waste and myotonia. Facial weakness is one of the earliest and most constant features. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Cardiac surgery and the kidney - studies on the effects of pharmacological interventions on renal perfusion, filtration and oxygenation

    Författare :Gudrun Bragadottir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kidney failure; acute; glomerular filtration rate; renal circulation; oxygen consumption; cardiac surgery; vasopressin; mannitol; levosimendan; estimating equations;

    Sammanfattning : Acute kidney injury (AKI) commonly complicates cardiac surgery and is associated with high mortality. Renal ischemia is considered to be the major cause. There is a close association between glomerular filtration rate (GFR), tubular sodium reabsorption and renal oxygen consumption (RVO2) in humans. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Long-term follow-up of adult women with urinary tract infection in childhood

    Författare :Carin Gebäck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ambulatory blood pressure; blood pressure; chronic kidney disease; DMSA scan; glomerular filtration rate; hypertension; pregnancy; renal damage; renal function; urinary tract infection; vesicoureteral reflux;

    Sammanfattning : Acute pyelonephritis is common in young children and can lead to permanent renal damage. Renal damage increases the risk of complications such as hypertension and decreased renal function later in life. For women with renal damage there is also an increased risk of pregnancy complications. LÄS MER
