  1. 11. Analysis and development of strategies for magnetic resonance functional neuroimaging

    Författare :Peter Fransson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :neuroimaging; human brain; functional activation; magnetic resonance imaging; cerebral blood oxygenation;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on strategies for oxygenation-sensitive MRI that are designed to measure alterations in brain physiology induced by changes in neuronal activity. In a first study, it was shown that the temporal evolution of BOLD MRI signal changes in response to both brief and sustained visual activation are equally well visible in FLASH and EPI recordings. 2. 12. Brain functional near infrared spectroscopy in human infants : cerebral cortical haemodynamics coupled to neuronal activation in response to sensory stimulation

    Författare :Marco Bartocci; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Near infrared spectroscopy; newborn; infant; brain; sensory stimulation; cortical activation;

    Sammanfattning : The assessment of cortical activation in the neonatal brain is crucial in the study of brain development, as it provides precious information for how the newborn infant processes external or internal stimuli. Thus far functional studies of neonates aimed to assess cortical responses to certain external stimuli are very few, due to the lack of suitable techniques to monitor brain activity of the newborn. 3. 13. Mathematical modeling of neurovascular coupling

    Författare :Sebastian Sten; Maria Engström; Gunnar Cedersund; Fredrik Elinder; Gaute Einevoll; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The brain is critically dependent on the continuous supply of oxygen and glucose, which is carried and delivered by blood. When a brain region is activated, metabolism of these substrates increases rapidly, but is quickly offset by a substantially higher increase in blood flow to that region, resulting in a brief oversupply of these substrates. 4. 14. Neural correlates of skilled movement : functional mapping of the human brain with fMRI and PET

    Författare :H Henrik Ehrsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Brain; manual dexterity inter-limb coordination; kinesthesia; motor imagery;

    Sammanfattning : Humans have unique abilities to perform certain types of skilled voluntary movements. In this thesis we examine the neural substrates of. (i) fine digit actions, in particular the control of fingertip forces during manipulation, and (ii) the coordination of voluntary movements of different limbs. LÄS MER
