  1. 11. Global regulatory factors that impact metabolic and lifestyle choices in Pseudomonas putida

    Författare :Lisa Wirebrand; Victoria Shingler; Matthew Francis; Carlos Balsalobre; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Pseudomonas putida; c-di-GMP; motility; ppGpp; DksA; biofilm dispersal; transcriptional and translational regulation; dmp-system; phenol catabolism; carbon repression control; plasmid stability;

    Sammanfattning : Pseudomonas putida strains have a broad metabolic capacity and are innately resistant to many harmful substances – properties that make them of interest for a number of industrial and biotechnological application. They can rapidly adapt to changes in physico-chemical parameters in the soil and water environments they naturally inhabit. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Small Particles with Big Impact : Structural Studies of Viruses and Toxicological Studies of Nanodiamonds

    Författare :Anna Munke; Marvin Seibert; Kenta Okamoto; Filipe Maia; Inger Andersson; Nicola Stonehouse; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chaetenuissarnavirus II; cryo-EM; CtenRNAV-II; Escherichia coli; Danio rerio; flash X-ray imaging; Marnaviridae; single-particle analysis; single-particle imaging; Sogarnavirus; virus evolution; virus structure; XFEL; zebrafish embryo; Physics with specialization in Biophysics; Fysik med inriktning mot biofysik;

    Sammanfattning : Nanoparticles (NPs) can be found everywhere and their existence has both beneficial and harmful consequences for the environment and living beings. The investigations on which this thesis is based upon have contributed to an increased understanding of some of these particles and to the development of a method that could be used to study their structure. 3. 13. Molecular Evolution of the Vertebrate Genome

    Författare :Kiwoong Nam; Hans Ellegren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, I studied molecular evolution of the vertebrate genome, focusing on sex chromosomes, protein coding genes, and genome size variation. The evolutionary history of avian sex chromosomes was analyzed by comparing substitution rate among 12 gametologous gene pairs on the Z and W chromosomes. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Advancing Metabolic Engineering through Combination of Systems Biology and Adaptive Evolution

    Författare :Kuk-ki Hong; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; metabolic engineering; galactose utilization; systems biology; Ras PKA signaling pathway; evolutionary engineering; pleiotropy of evolutionary strategies;

    Sammanfattning : Understanding evolutionary strategies of microorganisms may provide opportunities foradvanced strain development with the aim to produce valuable bio-products from renewablebiomass resources. Through evolutionary processes, microorganisms can attain new traitsassociated with genetic changes that may be useful for the construction of improved strains. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Reticulate Evolution in Diphasiastrum (Lycopodiaceae)

    Författare :Sunniva Margrethe Due Aagaard; Niklas Wikström; Tom A. Ranker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; admixture analysis; Bayesian clustering; Diphasiastrum; Feulgen DNA image densitometry; homoploid hybridization; Lycopodiaceae; phylogenetic analysis; polyploidy; reticulate evolution; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; systematisk botanik; Systematic Botany;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis relationships and the occurrence of reticulate evolutionary events in the club moss genus Diphasiastrum are investigated. Diphasiastrum is initially established as a monophyletic group within Lycopodiaceae using non recombinant chloroplast sequence data. LÄS MER
