1. Interkulturalitet och historia : Historieundervisningens teori och praktik i en mångkulturell värld
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this thesis is to investigate interculturality in history as an idea and practice. Two overarching research questions are raised, each concerning the theoretical and practical levels: How can history, as a field of knowledge and teaching, be related to intercultural learning as a normative practice? 2. Mandom och mödom : Sexualitet, homosocialitet och aristokratisk identitet på det senmedeltida Island
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study is to show how political and sexual strategies interacted when the Icelandic elite was reorganized in the late Middle Ages. During the years 1262 through 1264, the Icelanders agreed to pay tax to the Norwegian king and thus Iceland evolved into a more organized and hierarchical society. LÄS MER
3. The Old, the New and the Unknown : The continents and the making of geographical knowledge in seventeenth-century Sweden
Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates early modern ways of looking at the world through an analysis of what the continents meant in three settings of knowledge making in seventeenth-century Sweden. Combining text, maps and images, the thesis analyses the meaning of the continents in, first, early modern scholarly ‘geography’, second, accounts of journeys to the Ottoman Empire and, third, accounts of journeys to the colony New Sweden. 4. Populärkulturen och klassamhället. Arbete, klass och genus i svensk dampress i början av 1900-talet
Sammanfattning : The aim of my thesis is to demonstrate how class was constructed linguistically in Svensk Damtidning (Swedish Woman's Magazine) at the beginning of the 20th century. Theoretically, I call for a renewal of studies of class, thus joining the traditions of post-marxism and feminism. LÄS MER
5. Drömmars värde : Varuhus och lotteri i svensk konsumtionskultur 1897-1939
Sammanfattning : The dissertation explores ideas about consumption in general and about consumer dreams in particular in early twentieth century Sweden. This is done in an analysis of two specific consumer environments –- the department store and the lottery. LÄS MER
