  1. 1. Reconstruction of the alveolar process in cleft patients

    Författare :Fatemeh Jabbari; Daniel Nowinski; Agneta Marcusson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; alveolar bone grafting; dental status; initial cleft size; dental restoration; unilateral cleft lip and palate; cleft lip and alveolus; primary periosteoplasty; facial growth;

    Sammanfattning : Background. The treatment of patients born with cleft lip and palate has been gradually modified over the years as the surgical procedures have developed and improved. Multidisciplinary team care has evolved and provided improved care with enhanced results. Clefts in the alveolus can be reconstructed by alveolar bone grafting or by periosteoplasty. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Phagolysosomal pH measurements in alveolar macrophages

    Författare :Kristina Nyberg Lindborg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :alveolar clearance; alveolar macrophages; phagocytosis; phagolysosomal pH; respiratory burst; silica particles; S. cerevisiae; C. albicans;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Mechanical clearance of insoluble particles from the alveolar part of the lung is known to be a slow process in humans, i. e., one or several years. Particles deposited in the alveolar region are phagocytized by alveolar macrophages (AM). LÄS MER

  3. 3. A Surface Phase Model of the Alveolar Lining: Ultrastructural Analysis and in vivo Applications

    Författare :Marcus Larsson; Lund Pediatrik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; X-ray diffraction; cryo-TEM; dynamic swelling; ARDS; surface phase; surfactant replacement therapy; cholesterol; minimal surface; pulmonary surfactant; alveolar surface; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis the relation between lung surfactant structure and functional properties have been studied. Experimental results show that the alveolar surface is formed by a coherent surface phase with a structure equal to tubular myelin. The properties of this phase may explain certain unresolved issues in lung physiology, e.g. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Bone tissue regeneration indento-alveolar surgery : clinical and experimental studies on biomaterials and bone graft substitutes

    Författare :Annika Sahlin-Platt; Maria Ransjö; Christer Dahlin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Biomaterials; bone graft substitutes; compomer; root end filling; Bio-Oss; Bioactive glass 45S5; Algipore; SEM EDAX; ICP-OES; Cryo-XPS;

    Sammanfattning : Pathological processes in the alveolar and facial bones can lead to bone loss that may not heal with complete regeneration. Biomaterials can be used to facilitate the healing process and/or as a bone substitute, but the mechanisms are not fully understood. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Masticatory retraining effect on masseter muscle, facial morphology and alveolar bone structure in the adult rat

    Författare :Anna Ödman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adult; rat; craniofacial morphology; alveolar trabecular bone; MYH; mandible; masticatory function;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this series of investigations was to study the effect of masticatory muscle retraining in adult rats with an earlier reduced masticatory muscle function on the craniofacial morphology, on the internal alveolar bone structure and on the deep masseter muscle. Material and Methods: Sixty young male rats received soft diet for a prolonged period, so that the animals developed weak masticatory muscles. LÄS MER
