  1. 21. The role of the endothelin system in experimental acute lung injury : with special reference to the formation of extra-vascular lung water

    Författare :Patrik Rossi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Acute lung injury; endothelin-1; extra-vascular lung water; pulmonary capillary pressure; sepsis; pulmonary edema; endotoxin;

    Sammanfattning : Acute lung injury is a major clinical challenge in the intensive care unit. Sepsis is the most frequent underlying cause of this pulmonary syndrome, which contains inflammation-induced diffuse alveolar damage and early stage high permeability edema. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Inflammatory response and intervention in experimental acute pancreatitis

    Författare :Changbin Shi; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; traumatology; Surgery; orthopaedics; signalling pathways; protein kinase C; nuclear factor-kB; leukocytes; inflammatory mediators; immunosuppression; acute pancreatitis; extracellular signal-regulated kinase;

    Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disease where underlying mechanisms for the local initiating events in the pancreas, the systemic dissemination of the inflammatory response and remote organ dysfunction still are unclear. The overall aim of the thesis was to study mechanisms of the inflammatory response in AP with special emphasis on local, systemic, and distant organ injury directed at different signalling pathways, and potential therapeutic strategies to prevent the development of inflammation and cell injury following AP. 3. 23. Acute pancreatitis - Cellular response and dynamic inflammatory changes

    Författare :Marwan Dib; Lund Kirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Veterinary medicine:surgery; inflammatory mediators.; adhesion molecules; endothelial barrier dysfunction; inflammatory response; mast cell; abdominal sepsis; Acute pancreatitis; physiology; pathology; clinical studies; Veterinärmedicin:kirurgi; fysiologi; patologi; kliniska studier;

    Sammanfattning : Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common disorder where underlying mechanisms for the local initiating events in the pancreas, the systemic dissemination of the inflammatory response and the remote organ dysfunction still are unclear. The aim of the present study was to further characterize the dynamics and sequence of the immune response in AP, and to determine the cellular origin of the initiating events. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Regional Lung Kinetics of Ventilator-Induced Lung Injury and Protective-Ventilation Strategies Studied by Dynamic Positron Emission Tomography

    Författare :João Batista Borges; Anders Larsson; Giacomo Bellani; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :[18F]fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose; positron emission tomography; acute pulmonary inflammation; acute respiratory distress syndrome; mechanical ventilation; ventilator-induced lung injury;

    Sammanfattning : Mechanical ventilation in itself can harm the lung and cause ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI), which can induce or aggravate acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Much debate remains over pivotal concepts regarding the pathophysiology of VILI, especially about the precise contribution, kinetics, and primary role of potential VILI mechanisms. LÄS MER

  5. 25. Novel diagnostics and treatment of acute lung injury and transplantation - Preclinical and clinical implementation

    Författare :Martin Stenlo; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Acute lung injury (ALI) and its most severe form, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) limit the utilization of donor lungs for transplantation but is also a common cause of death in the intensive care unit. There is a general lack of diagnostic tools by which to assess lung function in ARDS but, in addition, the treatments offered are limited. LÄS MER
