1. Labelling of various macromolecules using positron emitting 76Br and 68Ga : Synthesis and characterisation
Sammanfattning : Different prosthetic groups containing a trialkylstannyl- and an electrophilic group have been synthesised and labelled with the accelerator produced 76Br (T1/2=16 h) through oxidative bromination. The labelled prosthetic groups were conjugated to amino-containing macromolecules such as proteins and 5´-modified oligonucleotides. LÄS MER
2. From Tissue to Mutations : Genetic Profiling of Colorectal Cancer
Sammanfattning : Comprehensive characterisation of the mutational landscapes of solid tumours is a multistep process involving the collection of suitable samples, the extraction of nucleic acids and the preparation of these materials for mutational analyses. In this thesis, I aimed to develop a streamlined process for the analysis of colorectal cancer (CRC) patient samples in order to identify novel mutations that hallmark the development of advanced disease. 3. Indirect Radiohalogenation of Targeting Proteins : Labelling Chemistry and Biological Characterisation
Sammanfattning : In about half of all newly diagnosed cancer cases, conventional treatment is not adequately curative, mainly due to the failure of conventional techniques to find and kill residual cells and metastases, which might consist of only a few malignant cells, without causing unacceptable complications to healthy tissue. To solve the problem a more selective delivery of cytotoxic substances to tumour cells is needed. LÄS MER
4. Nanocellulose for Biomedical Applications : Modification, Characterisation and Biocompatibility Studies
Sammanfattning : In the past decade there has been increasing interest in exploring the use of nanocellulose in medicine. However, the influence of the physicochemical properties of nanocellulose on the material´s biocompatibility has not been fully investigated. LÄS MER
5. Characterisation of human adipose tissue : ceramide metabolism, depot differences and evaluation of dysfunctionality
Sammanfattning : Normal adipose tissue function is necessary for maintaining proper energy balance, as both excess and absence of this tissue lead to metabolic disturbances, such as insulin resistance. Adipose tissue can be dysfunctional in many ways, including disturbances in adipocyte size, lipolysis rate, adipokine secretion, inflammation, fibrosis or oxidative stress. LÄS MER
