21. Wind Power and Natural Disasters
Sammanfattning : Wind power can be related to natural disasters in several ways. This licentiate thesis gives some background and introduces four papers devoted to two aspects of this relation. The first section looks into how small-scale wind energy converters (WECs) could be used to generate power after a natural disaster. LÄS MER
22. Marine Current Resource Assessment : Measurements and Characterization
Sammanfattning : The increasing interest in converting energy from renewable resources into electricity has led to an increase in research covering the field of marine current energy, mainly concerning tidal currents and in-stream tidal turbines. Tides have the advantage of being predictable decades ahead. LÄS MER
23. Hydrokinetic Resource Assessment : Measurements and Models
Sammanfattning : The conversion of kinetic energy in water currents into electricity has gained great attention the past years. The conversion systems are stand-alone units that typically consist of a turbine, driven by the water stream, with a generator connected to it. LÄS MER
24. Tidally generated internal waves
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the internal tide in the deep ocean, which is generated by the barotropic tide flowing over the bottom topography. The energy flux from the barotropic tide to the internal-wave field at the bottom is calculated using a method based on linear-wave theory and the traditional WKB approximation valid for a slowing varying vertical stratification. 25. Study of adverse-pressure-gradient effects on a flat-plate boundary layer at high Reynolds numbers
Sammanfattning : Turbulent boundary layers are present in many aspects of life, from the weather and wind currents to transportation, production of energy or mixing processes. Understanding turbulent motions can allow for an improvement and development of technical devices, techniques or diagnosis of phenomena where a fluid flow is in the turbulent regime. LÄS MER
