1. Monitoring of Splanchnic Regional Perfusion : An Experimental Study of New Application and Validation
Sammanfattning : Systemic infection, major surgery, trauma and many other causes can lead to impaired organ function. Compensated shock is not detected by global hemodynamic and oxygen measurements, as they take no account for regional variations. LÄS MER
2. Quantitative Tracer Based MRI Perfusion : Potentials and Limitations
Sammanfattning : Tracer based MRI perfusion measurements is a clinically useful tool to assess regional distributions of tissue blood flow and volume. The method may be based on any of the three relaxation mechanisms T1, T1 and T2*, the latter denoted DSC-MRI being the most common. LÄS MER
3. Immunological effects of isolated regional perfusion in malignant melanoma
Sammanfattning : Malignant melanoma patients with metastatic disease confined to the limbs or liver may be treated with hyperthermic isolated regional perfusion with a chemotherapeutic agent, most commonly melphalan. This procedure enables much higher tissue concentrations of the chemotherapeutic agent compared with systemic administration. LÄS MER
4. Optimisation and Validation of Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI Perfusion Measurements
Sammanfattning : The studies presented in this thesis concern the optimisation and evaluation of the dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI) technique for the assessment of perfusion-related parameters of the brain, such as cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV) and mean transit time (MTT). Several methodological factors influence these measurements, for example, contrast-agent administration, arterial input function (AIF) registration, choice of deconvolution algorithm and the choice of pulse-sequence parameters. 5. Isolated regional perfusion for metastases of malignant melanoma - Clinical and experimental studies
Sammanfattning : Background: Isolated regional perfusion is a treatment option mainly for localized metastatic disease. The principle idea is to surgically isolate a region of the body and connect the circulation to a heart-lung machine. A high concentration of a chemotherapeutic agent is then delivered to the tumour, while systemic toxicity is avoided. LÄS MER
