1. Forensic taphonomy in an indoor setting : Implications for estimation of the post-mortem interval
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to determine if and how taphonomic data can be used to expand our knowledge concerning the decompositional process in an indoor setting, as well as adapting scoring-based methods for quantification of human decomposition, to increase the precision of post-mortem interval (PMI) estimates. In the first paper, the established methods of Total Body Score (TBS) and Accumulated Degree-Days (ADD) were investigated in an indoor setting, with results indicating a fairly low precision. 2. Oxycodone in Forensic Toxicology : Analytical Strategies and Interpretation
Sammanfattning : Oxycodone is a common finding in forensic casework and widely used as an analgetic. Oxycodone’s pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties make the interpretation of post mortem oxycodone blood concentrations complicated. LÄS MER
3. An Experimental Study of Submerged Entry Nozzles (SEN) Focusing on Decarburization and Clogging
Sammanfattning : The submerged entry nozzle (SEN) is used to transport the molten steel from a tundish to a mould. The main purpose of its usage is to prevent oxygen and nitrogen pick-up by molten steel from the gas. Furthermore, to achieve the desired flow conditions in the mould. LÄS MER
4. Post mortem studies on the human alcoholic brain : DNA methylation and molecular responses
Sammanfattning : Chronic alcoholism is a multi-factorial psychiatric disease manifested by re-occurring periods of relapse with frequent symptoms of cognitive impairments. There is no explanation to the extreme vulnerability to relapse, since this often occurs without evident molecular or biochemical changes remaining at the time of relapse. LÄS MER
5. Synaptic plasticity in drug abuse disorders : studies of the human post-mortem brain
Sammanfattning : Drug addiction is a chronic disorder characterized by craving and compulsive drug use despite adverse consequences and high rates of relapse during periods of abstinence. Therapeutic interventions for most addiction disorders are limited today, partly because the underlying neurobiology is still unknown. LÄS MER
