16. A clinical and experimental study of basal cell carcinoma : aspects on epidemiology, genetics and microphysiology
Sammanfattning : In the present thesis we report on basal cell carcinoma from the points of view of its incidence, risk factors and pathogenesis, with special interest in patients with more than one basal cell carcinoma in life. Incidence was studied for southern Stockholm during two periods separated by two decades, 1971-1980 and 1996-1997. LÄS MER
17. The use of molecular techniques for identification of genetic divergence in transplantation : with special reference to MHC genes and HLA typing
Sammanfattning : Transplantation immunology basically deals with the immune mechanisms that lead to rejection of transplanted tissues. Lymphocytes are the key mediators of graft rejection. At the time for this observation, the genetic loci responsible for histocompatibility between individuals of the same species were already identified in the mouse. LÄS MER
18. Infections in skin cancer
Sammanfattning : The increasing prevalence of skin cancer results in that it will soon equal that of all other cancers combined. Sun exposure is a well-known risk factor for its development, but despite the growing public awareness of the harmful consequences of ultraviolet radiation, the cancer incidence continues to increase, implying that other factors might also have a role in promoting this disease. 19. The cholecystokinin receptor family : molecular cloning and pharmacological characterization
Sammanfattning : Cholecystokinin (CCK) and gastrin are hormones/neurotransmittors of the gastrointestinal tract and central nervous system. The receptors for gastrin and CCK are members of the G protein-coupled receptor family. The aim of this study was to clone and pharmacologically characterize vertebrate and invertebrate CCK receptors and splice variants. LÄS MER
20. Early diagnosis of cytomegalovirus infection using monoclonal antibodies and DNA amplification
Sammanfattning : Human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) is ubiquitous and frequently infects normal individuals with few serious clinical consequences. However, patients with impaired cellular immunity frequently develop life-threatening opportunistic HCMV infections due to either primary infection or reactivation of latent virus. LÄS MER
