  1. 6. Studies on receptors for modified LDL in human monocytes and macrophages : a link between diabetes and atherosclerosis?

    Författare :Linda Svensson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; atherosclerosis; diabetes CD14; CD36; CD64; fatty acid; flow cytometry; macrophage; monocyte; scavenger receptor;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes increases the risk for cardiovascular disease three- to fourfold. Because of the rise in diabetes prevalence there is a need for a better understanding of the link between diabetes and atherosclerosis. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease, characterized by the accumulation of lipids and fibrous tissue in the wall of medium and large-sized arteries. The characteristic culprit of the disease is the atheroma, or atherosclerotic plaque, a patchy thickening of the arterial wall which affects the lumen, inducing various degrees of stenosis. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Women, diabetes and coronary heart disease

    Författare :Annika Dotevall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :diabetes mellitus; women; myocardial infarction; risk factors; autoantibodies; oxidized LDL; triglycerides; WHR; BMI; HDL-cholesterol; ACS;

    Sammanfattning : Aims: The aim of the present study was to explore the reason why women with diabetes lose the female protection against MI, by investigating cardiovascular risk factors, markers of inflammation, early predictors for future development of diabetes and clinical manifestations in diabetes and coronary heart disease.Subjects and methods: Women with (n=29), and without diabetes (DM) (n=64), hospitalised with a smyocardial infarction ( MI) 1994-96, were compared with DM-women without MI (n=46) and healthy controls (n=125). 4. 9. LDL Oxidation Susceptibility and Its Relation To Antioxidants and Fatty Acids : A Clinical and Experimental Study

    Författare :Bo Ziedén; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is an arterial disease characterized by lipid deposits in the artery wall. These lipid deposits partly consist of oxidatively modified low density lipoprotein (LDL). Several lines of evidence indicate a role of oxidized LDL in atherogenesis. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Immune reactions against oxidatively modified low density lipoproteins in patients with atherosclrosis and healthy individuals

    Författare :Ruihua Wu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Immune-inflammatory mechanisms are involved in the development of atherosclerosis, and immune reactions against oxidatively modified LDL have received special interest. In the present study, we have investigated the effect of oxLDL on the stimulation of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) to increased DNA-synthesis and cytotoxicity and the nature and the prevalence of antibodies against oxLDL in healthy individuals and in patients with atherosclerosis.
