    Sammanfattning : The fluid flow and tracer transport in a single rock fracture during shear processes has been an important issue in rock mechanics and is investigated in this thesis using Finite Element Method (FEM) and streamline particle tracking method, considering evolutions of aperture and transmissivity with shear displacement histories under different normal stresses, based on laboratory tests. The distributions of fracture aperture and its evolution during shear were calculated from the initial aperture fields, based on the laser-scanned surface roughness features of replicas of rock fracture specimens, and shear dilations measured during the coupled shear-flow-tracer tests in laboratory performed using a newly developed testing apparatus in Nagasaki University, Nagasaki, Japan. Författare :Ville Jalkanen; Olof Lindahl; Britt Andersson; Tomas Jansson; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tactile resonance sensor; prostate tissue; prostate cancer; stiffness; density; elastic; variations; tissue histology; Medical engineering; Medicinsk teknik;

    Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer is the most frequent type of cancer in men in Europe and the USA. The methods presently used to detect and diagnose prostate cancer are inexact, and new techniques are needed. LÄS MER

  4. 14. Dried blood sampling and digital readout to advance molecular diagnostics

    Författare :Johan Björkesten; Ulf Landegren; Björn Högberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; molecular diagnostics; dried blood sample; DBS; digital readout; digital enumeration; DNA detection methods; proximity extension assay; protein stability; genotyping; rare mutations; cell free DNA; multiplex protein measurement.; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : A drastically increased capacity to measure large sets of molecular features in numerous patient samples in great detail will be required to fulfill the vision of precision medicine and wellness, which may characterize molecular diagnostics in the 21st century. Also sampling procedures need a renaissance to permit continuous sampling at population levels at reasonable cost. LÄS MER

  5. 15. The heart rate method for estimating oxygen uptake in walking and cycle commuting : Evaluations based on reproducibility and validity studies of the heart rate method and a portable metabolic system

    Författare :Jane Salier Eriksson; Peter Schantz; Hans Rosdahl; Jostein Hallén; Gymnastik- och idrottshögskolan; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Heart rate; Oxygen consumption; Validity; Reproducibility; Oxycon Mobile; Douglas Bag Method; Cycle commuting; Walking commuting; Medicin Teknik; Medicine Technology;

    Sammanfattning : Walking and cycling to work can contribute to population health, but more objective knowledge concerning exercise intensities, oxygen uptake and the metabolic demands of this physical activity is needed for this and other evaluations. To attain this, valid and reliable instruments are a requirement. LÄS MER
