21. Aroma characterisation and retention after heat treatment and drying of fruits using extraction and GC-MS analysis
Sammanfattning : This study concerns the identification and characterisation of volatile components of fruits, and evaluation of the effect of heat treatment and drying on retention or loss of volatiles of fruits. The investigation included developing a procedure to extract volatile components from the fruit matrix, a purification step, separation, identification and quantification. LÄS MER
22. Ethanol Production from Lignocellulosic Materials: Potential of Continuous Cultivation, Immobilisation, and Zygomycetous Fungi
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the production of bio-ethanol, a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels, from dilute-acid lignocellulosic hydrolysate in a continuous immobilised cell system and fermentation of the hydrolysate by a zygomycete organism, M. indicus. LÄS MER
23. Fermentation of undetoxified dilute acid lignocellulose hydrolysate for fuel ethanol production
Sammanfattning : Important aspects of ethanol production from undetoxified dilute acid lignocellulose hydrolysate are covered in this thesis, which primarily focuses on the use of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Baker's yeast) as the biocatalyst. Nine different strains of S. LÄS MER
24. Lipid production from lignocellulosic material by oleaginous yeasts
Sammanfattning : Oleaginous yeasts are a potential lipid source for production of fuels, chemicals and food or feed and use of lignocellulosic biomass as feedstock is considered a sustainable approach. Pre-treatment of lignocellulose is required to release the major carbon sources, glucose, xylose and other sugars for lipid production by oleaginous yeasts, but also releases inhibitory compounds. 25. Aroma components in Vangueria infausta L. : Characterization of components using GC_MS and aroma loss during drying
Sammanfattning : This study focuses on the fruit of the African medlar (Vangueria infausta L., family Rubiaceae). The investigation included the development of an extraction procedure of volatile components from the fruit matrix, a purification step, separation, identification and quantification. LÄS MER
