  1. 1. On the Effect of Grain Size and Hardness on the Machinability of Superalloys and Chip Deformation

    Författare :Stefan Olovsjö; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Superalloys; Microstructure; Burr; Machinability; Waspaloy; Chip microstructure; Tool wear; Alloy 718;

    Sammanfattning : Superalloys are used in applications such as gas turbines, steam power plants and nuclear power systems that require good high temperature properties and/or exceptional corrosion resistance. Superalloys are classified as materials that are “difficult to machine”. In production machining is a most commonly occurring procedure. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Effects on Machinability due to Microstructure Variations in Case Hardening Steel

    Författare :Karin Björkeborn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Machinability; Short-term test; Microstructure; Pearlite Nodular Size; Case Hardening Steel; Chip breakability.;

    Sammanfattning : Typical products made of case hardening steel are transmission parts like gear wheels, pinions and crown wheels. Case hardening produces a carbon-rich surface and provides the parts with both enhanced hardness and fatigue life. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Influence of Microstructure on Chip Formation - Machining Aero Engine Alloys

    Författare :Stefan Cedergren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Superalloy; Alloy 718; Ti-6Al-4V; Inconel 718; segmented chip; shear-localization;

    Sammanfattning : Aero engine materials such as nickel-iron and titanium based alloys are known to be very difficult to machine. They are also known to produce shear-localized chips; a type of chip which is associated with both an increase of the tool wear and the vibration levels during machining. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Microstructure of a cubic boron nitride tool material before and after hard turning

    Författare :Jenny Angseryd; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; EELS; cBN; microstructure; PCBN; adherent layer; EDX; wear; SEM; EFTEM; TEM;

    Sammanfattning : AbstractPolycrystalline cubic boron nitride (PCBN) materials are widely used in turning of hardened steels due to their beneficial mechanical properties like high hardness at elevated temperatures and, compared to diamond, for being more chemically stable towards iron at temperatures typical for turning operations (800-1000˚C). The wear of PCBN tools is influenced by several factors, like machining parameters, different tool geometries and varying composition of PCBN tools as well as workpiece material. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Performance Testing of Cutting Fluids and Tool Holders in Metal Cutting

    Författare :Varun Nayyar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chip Microstructure; Torque; Drilling; Compressed air; Turning; Tool-holding; Force.; Tapping; Keyword: Cutting Fluid;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACTThe metal cutting industry has evolved over the last century to the point where an increasing range and complexity of tool holding systems and cutting fluids are available for metal machining in the market. Most of the companies report their cutting fluid cost to be between 7 -17 % of the manufacturing cost. LÄS MER
