  3. 3. Assessment and monitoring of nutritional status in chronic kidney disease patients

    Författare :Thiane Gama-Axelsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) often suffer from malnutrition and protein-energy wasting (PEW) resulting in poor nutritional status which is a powerful predictor of mortality. As it is not clear how well nutritional markers used in the clinical care of these patients accurately reflect nutritional status we evaluated in post-hoc, cross-sectional observational studies several common markers of malnutrition and PEW, and assessed their correlations to each other and to survival in patients with CKD stage 5 (CKD 5). 4. 4. Life satisfaction in late life: Markers and predictors of level and change among 80+ year olds

    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Life satisfaction; oldest-old; longitudinal design; health; social network; locus of control; depressive symptoms; personality;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of the thesis was to examine within-individual and between-individual changes in life satisfaction in the oldest-old using different time metrics and to study life satisfaction within the context of psychosocial and health-related variables. Data were obtained from the Swedish OCTO-Twin Study of individuals aged 80 and older who were able to complete the Life Satisfaction Index-Z (LSI-Z). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Exploring novel roles of metabolic enzymes MTHFD2 and PFKFB3 in cancer genome stability and their potential as anticancer therapeutic targets

    Författare :Nadilly Y Bonagas Villarreal; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Altered tumor metabolism has been described as early as the 1920s, but it was only in recent decades that proteomic and metabolomic studies revealed that the ways in which tumors rewire their nutrient and energy pathways are more diverse and have more implications for treatment outcome than previously thought. There is now a great interest in characterizing promising metabolic targets and identifying novel ways by which to exploit them for cancer treatment. LÄS MER
