  1. 6. Expression and regulation of CCL25 and its role in T cell localization to and function within the small intestine

    Författare :Anna Ericsson; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; mucosa; epithelium; intestine; transplantation; serology; Immunologi; Immunology; integrin; serologi; Chemokine;

    Sammanfattning : Earlier studies have demonstrated an important role for the chemokine CCL25, and its receptor CCR9, in the generation of the small intestinal lymphocyte compartment. The work in this thesis was aimed at determining how CCL25 is regulated within the small intestinal mucosa, and what potential role it plays in T cell localization to and function within this site. 2. 7. Mechanisms of resident T cell-driven tissue responses during the onset and recurrence of human skin inflammation

    Författare :Irène Gallais Sérézal; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Long-lived tissue-resident memory T cells (TRM) reside in nonlymphoid organs and can drive direct cytotoxicity, focal cytokine release and potent tissue-wide anti-infectious responses upon antigenic challenge. TRM cells poised to pathogenic responses have been identified in active and resolved psoriasis and mice models of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). LÄS MER

  3. 8. Compartmentalisation of the immune response in human skin : cross-talk between dendritic cells and T cells in healthy conditions and in psoriasis

    Författare :Elisa Martini; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Human skin is highly compartmentalised and distinct subsets of dendritic cells (DCs) and T cells reside in epidermis and dermis. Alterations in the composition of DCs and T cells have been observed in psoriasis, a common cytokine-driven focal inflammatory skin disease. LÄS MER

  4. 9. The role of adjuvant-induced innate immune activation in shaping vaccine responses

    Författare :Elizabeth A Thompson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Adjuvants are components added to non-live vaccine formulations to enhance the effect of the vaccine by alerting the immune system to initiate a response against the vaccine. Powerful new adjuvants will be critical for the development of next generation vaccines to diseases such as tuberculosis, HIV-1/AIDS, malaria, and therapeutic cancer vaccines. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Epithelial barrier protection : implications for HIV susceptibility

    Författare :Gabriella Edfeldt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The majority of HIV infections today occur through sexual HIV transmission. The female genital mucosa offers a barrier against incoming pathogens. Although, studies show that the vaginal microbiome, co-current infections and local inflammation, the use of hormonal contraceptives and microbicides, can weaken this protective lining. LÄS MER
