11. Malignancies associated with gynecological cancer : epidemiological and etiological aspects
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to analyze the incidence and risk of second primary malignancies (SPM) in a Swedish cohort of gynecological cancer patients, to explore suggested risk factors associated with second primary malignancies in ovarian cancer patients, and to evaluate the risk of ovarian cancer in a cohort of breast cancer patients in relation to family history of breast or ovarian cancer. Incidence of second primary malignancies in 15,200 gynecologicaI cancer patients were investigated in a register-based study and compared to age- and calendar-specific incidence for women in the general population. 12. Does cancer originate in utero?
Sammanfattning : The purpose of the present thesis was to evaluate Trichopoulos' hypothesis that breast cancer can originate in utero, and to examine the role of antenatal estrogen exposure in the etiology of testicular cancer. Additionally, a novel method was developed to measure physical activity in epidemiological studies. LÄS MER
14. Familial risks for cancer with reference to lung cancer
Sammanfattning : Familial aggregation of cancer may be due either to environmental factors shared by family members, or to shared genes. Familial clustering has been an avenue to the understanding of the etiology of cancer and has been a basis for clinical decisions and counseling, as well as guiding the identification of cancer-related genes. 15. Exposures in utero and chronic disease : an alternative methodological approach
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to evaluate maternal and birth characteristics as risk factors for breast cancer and cardiovascular disease later in life, and to assess maternal serum concentrations of insulin-like growth factors in pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia. Birth characteristics and risks of breast cancer were studied in a case-control study nested within the population-based Swedish Twin Register (Paper 1). LÄS MER
