1. Urinary incontinence in middle-aged women - a population-based study on prevalence, risk factors and the role of the urethra
Sammanfattning : Urinary incontinence classification is based on symptomatology, presuming that each symptom originates in a separate pathophysiology and demands its unique therapy. Women often present a mixture of symptoms inconsistent with urodynamic diagnosis, especially regarding urgency. LÄS MER
2. Urodynamic modelling and measurement techniques for assessment of urethral function during micturition
Sammanfattning : According to Griffiths' theory of flow through elastic tubes the urinary flow is controlled by an elastic constriction. The mechanical properties of this flow-controlling zone are described by the intrinsic urethral pressure as a function of cross-sectional area given by the pressure/area relation p(A)=pmo + KnAn, where pmo is the minimal urethral opening pressure, A the cross-sectional area and Kn and n are parameters describing the distensibility of this zone. 3. Female urinary incontinence. A study on heredity, urodynamic and hormonal factors and the evaluation of a novel surgical technique
Sammanfattning : Abstract Pelvic floor disorders (PFD) represent a major public health issue worldwide. Aims of this work Study I: to investigate associations between preoperative resting urethral parameters (MUCP, FL and CA) and objective outcome of laparoscopic colposuspension and, if possible, to identify cutoff values useful in clinical practice. 4. The use of implants in female pelvic floor reconstructive surgery. Short and long term efficacy and safety
Sammanfattning : Pelvic floor reconstructive surgery (PFRS) has suffered from high recurrence rates ever since its birth. Implants were thus quickly employed, initially autologous grafts and allografts. LÄS MER
5. Transurethral microwave thermotherapy of benign prostatic hyperplasia : mechanisms of action and clinical outcome
Sammanfattning : Background: The therapeutic value of transurethral microwave thermotherapy (TUMT) in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is a matter of debate. Aims: Evaluation of the clinical effect of TUMT and of various duration of the treatment; investigation of the kind and extent of tissue lesions induced by TUMT and of the mechanisms behind the therapeutic effect; investigation of the effect of heat on human prostate stromal cells in cell culture.
