  1. 6. Retinal thickness measured with optical coherence tomography in patients with multiple sclerosis

    Författare :Ulrika Birkeldh; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The retina offers a unique window to the brain with its unmyelinated axons that converge to the optic nerve. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a well-established and non-invasive imaging technique in the ophthalmology field. The retinal layers can be imaged directly, and OCT is often described as an optical biopsy of retinal tissue. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Molecular Genetic Studies of Genes Predisposing for Glaucoma

    Författare :Mattias Jansson; Claes Wadelius; Annika Lindblom; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; glaucoma; MYOC; OCLM; GSTM1; OPTN; mutation analysis; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of visual impairment in the world. In glaucoma, the patient’s peripheral vision is lost due to progressive and irreversible deterioration of the retinal ganglion cells and atrophy of the optic nerve. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Studies on hereditary spastic paraplegia proteins

    Författare :Cynthia Soderblom; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSPs) are a clinically and genetically diverse group of inherited neurological disorders that primarily cause progressive spasticity and weakness in the lower limbs due to a length-dependent, retrograde degradation of the corticospinal motor neurons. Purely spastic paraplegia is also known as uncomplicated HSP, but complicated forms of HSP exist as well, with symptoms such as mental retardation, dementia, seizures, and optic, cortical, and cerebellar atrophy. 4. 9. Endemic ataxic polyneuropathy in Nigeria

    Författare :Olusegun Steven Ayodele Oluwole; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Ataxia; Polyneuropathy; Nutrition; Cassava; Cyanogenic glycosides; Cyanide; Thiocyanate; Tropical;

    Sammanfattning : Ataxic polyneuropathy is a neurological syndrome that was described from an endemic area in south-western Nigeria in the 1950s and 1960s. The major clinical features are sensory polyneuropathy, sensory gait ataxia, optic atrophy, and nerve deafness. LÄS MER
