6. Intestinal IgA synthesis: Localization and requirements for IgA class switch recombination
Sammanfattning : Production of IgA at mucosal surfaces is one of the most striking features of the mucosal immune system. Despite that IgA was first discovered in the 1950’s and secretory IgA described in gut secretions and breast milk in the mid 1960’s we still have limited information about the sites and exact requirements for IgA class switch recombination. 7. EFFECTOR T CELL HOMING TO THE SMALL INTESTINAL MUCOSA
Sammanfattning : The intestinal mucosa, including the intestinal epithelium and underlying lamina propria (LP), contains a large number of effector/memory T cells that are thought to play a central role in the generation and maintenance of mucosal immune responses and in maintaining mucosal integrity. The work in this thesis investigates the mechanisms regulating effector T cell recruitment to the small intestinal mucosa focusing on the role of chemokine receptors in this process. LÄS MER
8. Study of the colonic mucus layer by mass spectrometry
Sammanfattning : The mucus covering our internal mucosal surfaces is a part of the innate immune system, and the first line of defense against microbial challenges. The need of an efficient defense system is especially important in the lower parts of the digestive tract where the microbiota reaches its highest density. LÄS MER
9. Intestinal mucins 'soluble and insoluble problems'
Sammanfattning : Highly glycosylated glycoproteins – mucins – are the major constituents of the mucus layer and glycocalyx that cover mucosal surfaces. Twelve human mucin genes have been identified, and the mucins may be divided into those that are membraneassociated and those that are secreted. LÄS MER
10. Colonization, persistence and virulence factors in Escherichia coli strains in the human intestinal microflora
Sammanfattning : Escherichia coli is a member of the normal intestinal microflora of man and many animals. In this thesis, various aspects of the E. coli colonization pattern were studied, especially the role of so called virulence factors for persistence of E. coli in the gut microflora. LÄS MER
